Hi all, loving this roads forum. I travel back to s. wales regularly from london and have found some great roads after teh border. But i would like to incorporate some similar beauties from london to the border?. Dont mind prolonging the trip by 3-4 hrs if necessary, max 6-7 hrs to cardiff.
I have done the a44,a40, but seem to find myself on the m4 to swindon and then up into gloucester/ hereford for my hooning fix. Never tried south of the m4 westwards.
So London to south west, with cardiff the target - any route ideas?

I know you wanted roads on the English side, but the B4235 comes from just off the bridge at Chepstow, all the way up to Monomouth and I think it's possibly the best road I've ever driven.

There are some superb roads through Oxfordshire, but I'm afraid I can't remember the details of any of them, but the above should definitely be tried if it fits in with your route. smile

Cheers chris, funnily enough did that this weekend for first time ( ended up doing it twice, well three times actually) and a great great road. In my top 3, very smooth and suits my 330i runflats. Another corker i found was the b4293, but only did the upper half. A real cracker. A drive through wolvesnewton and you almost have a monmouthshire triange on yer hands lol. Will be doing that soon. Perhaps a hoon down the m4 isnt such a bad idea when you look at whats on offer off the a466. Cheers for the post.

You could consider the A4 instead of the M4. I sometimes do Bristol/Basingstoke on that to avoid the motorway.
