Changing my tyres in the next month or so, running 235x40x17 both front and rear, thinking of putting the profile up to 45's . I'm aware that the profile compounds the problem of ride quality and noise, but surly there must be tyre manufacturers out there who combated it, or at least minimised it. Any recommendations on next tyre to fit and rough cost?

Michelin Primacy HP. I put these on my 5 series and the ride was notably improved over the previous Continentals.

Go with the lowest speed rating you can find (might not actually be possible with that profile but worth a try) as lower speed rating generally means a less stiff sidewall.
