F1 returns to the BBC

The first race in Melbourne 27Th to 29Th March. The Beeb have started the adverts which look more exciting than another procession of fast cars which it has been in the past. After watching the WSB coverage F1 looks a bit pedestrian, IMO of course

It hasn't been that way for the last 2 years.
Also, with the new cars it looks as though it'll be even closer this year with plenty passing and outright skill involved.

As for the BBC falling in love with Lewis Hamilton - why not? The guy is a superb british talent and should be talked about to the extent that they more than likely will

Ah, I have not watched a race in it's entirety when it was on ITV as when the ads came on I would channel hop and usually find something more interesting to watch, like..............CRICKET

It's more probable if the Beeb can afford it that it will be in full HD at Silverstone but when it's abroad they are usually at the mercy of the countries own feed

It will not be in HD because, as has been discussed on Pistonheads, Ecclestone wants additional money for an HD feed which the BBC are not prepared to pay. They have said they may consider it for the later part of the season. Presumably once they see the viewing figures and negotiate a reduced price form the Eccles.

Fair coverage of Hamilton? Great. ITV type hagiography? No thank you.

All of this "Lewis this", "Lewis that" as if we're all his bestest mates really grated on me in the end.

I fully understand that ITV were trying to cater for the new viewers who were attracted to F1 by the Hamilton bandwagon, but, first and foremost, he is just another driver.

I dearly hope that Auntie remembers that fact. Hamilton is an outstanding talent, but there are other, equally capable drivers on the grid that warrant their attention too.

A little less of the first name wouldn't go amiss either IMO.

Its great news that its going back to the Beeb... but I still we get a raw deal on motorsport coverage in the UK

The only thing I've seen is the (IMO) awful trailer - it was on around lunchtime today. Tarted up generic single-seaters (with what look like mdf panels) bumping along a road at 25mph - absolute nonsense, never mind insulting & condescending.

The website is poor - gets most of it's info directly from the official FIA site - and only seems to be updated every 2-3 days.

But even considering this, two good things override it all - no ad breaks and no James Allen.

I also saw this and I knew it was cr@p but there was also something else... and I think you've got it... insulting!

How anyone thought that trailer/ad was good is beyond me!? How does it reflect in anyway how F1 will be shown on the BBC... hang on... please tell me they aren't going to start racing lego cars around Kingston...
