I recently went into our local B&O and I was well impressed with the Beosound 5. It was demo'd through beolab 9 while I was impessed with the system I find it hard to part with £5k+ for the speakers when they didn't sound as good as my current Cyrus system of cd8se 8vs2 + 8power and 3 PSxr's all into Quad 12L2's at a 1/4 of the price or near enough.
The salesman went to great pains to tell me in tests the B&O 'blew away the likes of Linn etc' He didn't come up with any reprints to back up the claim.

What I did like about the main system is that it can copy a cd in 2 minutes to the HD and it will play like a DJ/jukebox in that if you pick a style of song it will search through the Hd and play something by another artist.
I could buy a cd put it on and then if I wasn't sure about it,sell it and in some case nearenough get my money back if I wanted to.

The only thing is that with the B&O being powered speakers and I would have to get something compatible, so my question is, Has anybody bought the B&O head unit and used a different make of speaker? or even is it possible to do that?

I have posted in Avforums as well but I think most B&O buyers will not frequent such places as they think they have bought the best and forums are full of the mutiple boxes brigade :rolleyes

Some of it has some nice features.

However, on a pound for pound basis the competition will almost always obliterate it.

If I was going to spend that sort of money on speakers I would go for Quad ESL's but they need extra amps and the beauty of the B&O system is the minimalistic 'no boxes' thing and the hard drive & controller

The BeoLab 9 are great speakers, and often not shown off to antwhere near their best in a showroom. Ask them for a home demo, and have a play around with them in your own room. I don't put a lot of faith in reviews myself and woud always get them home to see what I think. Have linked a couple below anyway so you can have a read.

I used to install B&O for Bramhall and Maccelsfied branches. B&O will tell you that if you want passive speakes you can runit through there seperate amp which I have done many times. They will also tell you that it is not possible to run powered speakers but this is not true. i have set up B&O to run Bose active speakers directly from the B&O 3000 (I think may have been century). Its been about 6 years since I was involved but I am sure the principle is the same.

(wow B&O connected to Bose its like the anti christ to pistonheads!)

We had a local evening do with Mercedes and B&O. The B&O guys were so pissed off, they has just done a software update on the latest system and it crashed. So bad, they gave up....
