I've just bought an 2.5l 85 lux at the w/e and have installed a head unit into the car but was a bit stuck for ideas where I can put the cd changer. It's an Alpine unit and it's fairly small but it won't go under the passenger seat.

The only places I can think of are behind the passenger seat (a bit visible), in the boot (not the most convenient of places) or in the glovebox (would have to drill a hole in the back of the box).

Has anyone got any suggestions as to where to place the unit and where to route the cable?

Thanks,

Mark

Mine was in the boot, in one of the 'pockets' to the side, under the carpet. You may need to bolt it to a wooden mount etc so that it slots in perfectly. No probs with that location IIRC.

I didn't know there were any pockets... I'll have the carpet out and have a look later.

Behind the rear wheels on either side, there are 2 deep pockets.

yep, pockets as above. In mine, the battery is in the pocket on the left, right pocket is ideal for changer as the boot carpet has flaps either side that fold up.
The cable can easily be run under the carpet along the sill and behind the rear side trim into the hatch area.

Job done, bolted to a piece of suitably shaped would and wedged in one of the pockets.

Just need some new speakers now, I think the ones that are in there have been in since new

Careful with the door speakers- they need to be very thin to clear the window mechanism. I cannot remember the exact measurements, but not every speaker will fit, and you won't know this until next spring when you open the window....

Obviously you discovered this when you were ripping it out to save weight

Will do. I'll take them along to the shop and see what matches the existing depth. Are the rear speakers 4x6s too?

LOL, nah, this was a gutbucket special. I think it even had a big amplifier in it

BTW, from my memory of the coupe 944, you can just abouyt squeeze 6x9s into the rear speaker areas behind the grilles. Very tight fit, but worth investigating.
