When I took the handbrake apart I broke one of the small spring pins that go in the middle of the brake shoes to hold them onto the backing plate.

Clevor Trevor sell a kit for about 25 quid but all I need is the one spring pin.

Beer tokens for anyone that has a spare one kicking around.

They are off a Peugeot.

You can buy a full new fitting kit for a few quid.

Have a look in the equivalent parts thread.

I posted the part numbers in there last year.

I found that I had to file down the peugoet ones a bit as they're a bit fatter than the originals.

If you want my rusty old originals, then PM me your address and I'll post 'em in the post.

Try Racing Green, they're also used on a Jag XJS and cost me ~£1 each. These fitted first time, so suspect the Peugeot ones are not quite right.

Steve - I seem to remeber you saying that you used XJS shoes? I found that the XJS ones were miles too wide, but the 605 ones fitted perfectly.

The Peugeot fitting kit IME isn't quite right, but with a little file the retaining pins fit, and you can use the shorter of the two return springs for the bottom (I had to re-use the top one, which was an absolute swine to get back in). Still the pug fitting kit only cost £4.50 or something, and I'd broken two of the pins, so well worth it).

Yes my bits and bobs were all XJS and fitted spot on. Took quite a while in the motor factors to find the shoes to match the old ones I'd brought with me though.

Don't s'pose you've got any pics have you - I'm suspecting that there are differences between cars, possibly in the backplate size/design (now wouldn't that be a surprise wink.
based on your post in the equivelant parts thread, I went right through my local factor's jag and ford stocks. There's only one size of XJS shoe, and it was nearly twice as wide as the old ones.
IIRC you're not the only one to find that the jag ones are right and the pug ones are wrong.

It's probably also worth mentioning that, looking at the insides of the discs, there's room for either a wide or a narrow shoe.

I believe its alot more than that. More like 30 something, as I went to Peugeot to soursce the pins when mine were fooked. They quoted my high 30's plus VAT for the kit, as the pins only werent available.
So I payed 30 quid delivered for the kit from Racetech TVR.

If someone could find the source for just these pins only, it would be very beneficial to the Cerb forum.

In the brake engineering ref' book the fitting kit is down as QK690.

AJ Autoparts use Brake Engineering so maybe worth giving your local factors a ring to get a price.

I'll try to dig out what I can about the part numbers I used. Mine is an early 98 car if that helps.
