BMW 318ti

Hi I have recently bought an e46 bmw compact. Is the engine belt or chain driven?? If its belt what mileage do they require changing at. This is my first bm so is their any other advice I need? Thanks for any help.

Its chain driven, BMW haven't used nasty belts since the early nineties.

So Pretty much maintenance free

Thanks was hoping that tbh. What sort off service intervals does it have?. And what is the general opinion off them??

They'll go circa 12k-16k / 2yrs dependent on type of useage

Regards service history

it should have had the following
Oil service circa 15k or 2yrs
Inspection I circa 30k or 4yrs
Oil Service circa 45k or 6yrs
Insoection II circa 60k or 8yrs
Oil Service circa 75k
Inspection I circa 90k
Oil Service Circa 105k

Brake Fluid every 2yrs
Coolant every 4yrs

Pretty cheap to run if your canny and I'd take one over a 320td based on purchase price/reliability/ and price of fuel.... though a 325ti is a great 'little' car the 318ti is decent.

ES or base spec is pants
SE is nice
Sport is worth seeking out
