runout 15th March (yes tomorrow)

Just come back from a very small Yorks runout - just me and Tommyb in his scooby.
The day started with a meet up at the Shell service station at 5:45. A quick into and a walkthru of the route and we were off.
Halifax to Skipton, to the real start point
A65 to Kirkby Lonsdale
This is a really nice road with lots of variety, long straight sections, changes in elevation, long easy bends, sharp bends. Usually its crawling with traffic but not at 6:30am its not. What little traffic there was was dispatched pretty quickly. The road was travelled in probably half the time it would during the day.
A683 to Sedbergh
This was again a fairly typical yorkshire dales road, fast bits, slow bits technical bits, but one bend in particular nearly caught us both out - a rather nasty tightening left hander, lets just say I was glad nothing was coming the opposite way
- the road weas pretty twisty in parts and we weren't even going that fast, no signes or anything that it was coming up.
A684 to Kendal
This was again a good section of road, rising fairly high and then dropping into Kendal. It was very twisty and technical with blind summits and bends. Quite hard work really. A white van did a very good job of keeping up with us, I'm sure the extra visibility and local knowledge had something to do with it (I hope)
A6 to Penrith
This really was a lovely piece of road, a pleasure to drive on. It rises to 1400ft over Shap and drops into Penrith. The surface is good, the road is wide, the bends nice and easy and flowing in the main. Again what traffic there was was quickly overtaken. I think one guy in a Focus was rather surprised to be overtaken, given he was already going relatively quickly.
We arrived in Penrith and had a quick stop for breakfast and plan for the next section of road. Tommyb suggested we head for Alston as he knew the route well.
A686 to Alston
Tommyb led the way on this and lets just say my car/driving was no match for his scooby. The first section up to the top of the pass (1900ft) was probably one of the most demanding stretches of road I have ever driven. Dips, crests, tight bends, off camber bends, heavy braking- you name it, it had it,................. and that was just the first mile.
At the moment I am sufferening a bit from pad transfer from a track day I did, but by the time this section was over my brakes were shaking/juddering terribly.
I am not sure I actually enjoyed it, it was all a bit too much like hard work, but in another way I did.
Finally we swapped the lead over again and I lead the way to Barnard Castle over a road I have traveled a few times, but this was the first time in this direction at speed.
B6277 to Barnard Castle
This is another moorland road. Rising and dropping, sweeping bends and tight bends, long fast straights lots of bumpy bits etc
One bit over the top gave me a nasty turn, just at the end of a long straightish bit it became very bumpy, right in the braking zone for a bend, the result was a rather untidy and heart stopping moment when I thought I wasn't going to shed enough speeed, but fortunately I did - although there was another outcome with my phone in the centre console shouting at me going "say command" "say command" - one of the buttons must have got pressed with all the bumping around.

6.25 hrs - 244 miles and a gnats pee away from 10 gallons of fuel - not bad really
Overall it was a great day. My first run out since having the KYB AGX's and Eibach fitted. I must say I like the road feel. The damping is much better and the car feels a lot more sure footed, but not at the expense of a huge difference in comfort. I need to do a track day now
