Dilema!!!
Is a 335d worth the extra £7k it will cost me over the price of a 330d?
Am i just as well getting the 330d and getting it re mapped?

Surely the price differential is not as wide as £7k?

A remapped 330d is as quick as a std 335d or thereabouts, plus you have the added addition of a manual box if so required.

How much are you looking to spend/age/spec etc?

But surely the "map it" argument can be applied just as easily (and with even better results) to the 335d...

The price gap between manual 330D & (auto only) 335D is only 4k when new. From what I've seen the gap is about 2k used....doesn't mean that thats want they achieve

If I bought again (new or nearly new) I'd probably go for a 330D with the revised engine and a touring not coupe....but i'd still have the excellent auto which suits the smooth character of 6 cylinder denzel

Hi Peeps.
Thanks so far.
It has to be a touring and an auto anyway. If i didn't need the boot space I would get an E46 M3 CSL
There are 330's of the above from about £15K on Auto Trader, and the 335's start at about £22K.
I would remap whichever I had.........The more torque the better smile........But £7K !!!! whoa!!

You're not comparing apples with apples though.

The £15K 330d auto on autotrader is a very high miles example (67K in two years), from a non franchised dealer.

The 335d is a low miles dealer example at £22950. The cheapest non starship miles 2007 330d is £21350, therefore the difference is £1500

If the 335d had starship miles it would be around £17K

Ok, I have deposited (To take it off sale and Subject to me liking it) a 335d from a main dealer with just under 57K on the clock....It's still £21K. When i can get over to test drive it it had better be bl00dy good or I'll walk away and get a 330d from a none franchise dealer and save myself £5-6K.

Thanks all.

You will love the 335d, a superb car in every respect. Ive done lots of track days and drag runs in mine and she has been superb.

Crikey that's a strong price for the mileage etc. Maybe used prices are starting to stabilise?

Jules.

Its too expensive, relative to the price of low miles examples.

Get a long test drive if it's your first auto, I had an auto 330d and hated it, if it had been a manual I would probably still have it now.

Interesting, I used to have an E46 330cd coupe with a manual box and my conclusion was that if I bought a diesel again I'd probably go for an auto!

The reason I say that is that diesels generally have narrower power bands than petrols and an auto is probably well suited to keeping them in it. Also, part of the fun of a manual with a good petrol engine is hanging on to the gears and letting it rev but you just don't drive a diesel like that; they're more machines for wafting around on the torque and I think an auto sits well with that style of motoring. All IMO of course!
