hiya chaps

I saw this last night... its just been reduced by the looks of it.
I think black is spot on and its low mileage and a good price.
Looks like they want to now shift it.

anyone know the car at all or live near it ?

They break sooner or later.

Probably not quite that much but it's a sod of a job and needs loads of new parts, not just gearbox ones.

Would be ok to just have the box rebuilt IF it breaks although the diff seems to be the weakest point again IF it breaks, would cost alot less than 5k to do both .

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 5 speed does not break, it is the open diff that breaks on the 5 sp setup. If the car has LSD, then it will be fine.
I have heard of the 5th gear in the 6speed boxes giving up tho!

So how much is a brand new 6 speeder? is it a noble only part or can we raid the ford parts bin?

Yup. 5th is the usual gear to go in the 6 speed. Problem is whilst it's normally the diff that goes on the 5 speed, no one knows how much grunt the gearbox can take anyway.

Andy , std 6 speed getrag box in the later mondeo but i recon you would be better having a 5 speeder rebuilt with a new diff to cope with 500bhp !!!

Dunno about that. I thought the 5 speed had lower gearing than the 6, so with 500bhp you'll just be bouncing along on the limiter in 5th.

Its not the power that's the problem rather the torque that kills.
Six speed boxes can be shot peened and strengthened to take care of (most) peoples requirements.

slight tweek in final drive ratio would fix that ,but to be honest in the real world its never going to be a issue.

I think putting in a 6 speed box would look a bargain compared to that smile

I notice it says it's black so it's "rare". Is there a law on ebay which means that everything has to be described as "rare" I wonder ? It does not matter if it's the only one of something or there are millions of them, things are always described as "rare". Why is that ?

I've still only seen one post about a 5-speeder breaking that I can remember in two and a half years, and at least the same number of 6-speeds going). Mine was out early last year and the garage estimated it was still good for at least another 25K miles with 30K on it already.

bouncing off the limit in 5th? only on the autobhans!.... with more power I actually think it would be slower with 6 gears due to them being closer together... unless of cause you dramatically extend the rev range!
I had a 4 speeder in my Ultima and it was stupid fast and yet top gear was 212mph!

if the 5 speeder is just as strong I will just stick an LSD in it and maybe get it shot peaned...
