Tamora Radiator - Exposed

Was looking into the mouth yesterday and noticed a little water
forming on the bottom of the radiator... Should I be concerned ?

Only they ain't cheap are they plus with fitting as they are
apparently a 'pig' to fit !

hi , i have this also , just at the bottom crimp joint ,
i've been told not to worry until it gets worse ?
i also had the bottom hose weeping on the jubilee clip tightened her up and dont seem to have the problem at the moment

Mine went a couple of weeks ago, it was dripping out about every 2 seconds when warm. Temp was erratic and was hitting 3 figures in traffic.

Replacement was about £800 I think from RG but was done under the warrenty so not too sure about the price.

If/when mine goes, I'll be looking to replace it with an alloy rad. They are retailing around £420 at the moment and I understand that they are a better replacement than a new, original rad. As for the labour, I suppose that depends on whether you go to a "main dealer", independent or DIY. So, I can understand how a figure of £800 can be arrived at.

I had a pin hole leak in my rad this time last year, i took it out with out to much bother, from underneath after getting the Tam a few inches in the air.
I had mine repaired for £25 by a radiator specialist, in Bursledon near Southampton. No problem since, unless you have money to burn check it out your self first.

Years ago I got a rad recored from a specialist in Chelmsford, they even painted it, it looked really good and all for £90! Good to hear there are still these places about rather than simply replacing new for old, £800 seems a hell of a lot for just a radiator, could think other goodies I'd rather spend my readies on?

As I said, I may be a bit off with the £800 figure. Since it was done under the warrenty I did not look too closely at the bill. Also, since one of the shocks was also knackered, I did spend the money I "saved" on the rad replacement on some nice nitrons!

Funny my Rad's just gone this weekend?! It is in at TrackvRoad for replacement here's a quick run down for anyone intrested:

Loader to Garage - 50p per mile (works out roughly £30 for me)
Alloy Rad from Levens - £410
Labour Charge - £50 per hour (takes between 3-4 hours approx so i've been told)
Knowing that i have a new rad that SHOULD'NT Leak - PRICELESS...

All in all should be around £640.00

I`m not a qualified TVR technician, and it took me less than 3 hours, including bleeding, and had never done the job before, i reckon i could do it in less than 2 hours now??

I agree, swapped mine out in less than 3 hours and that included getting it on and off the axle stands. Somewhere with lift should be well under two.

Just for future reference, Advanced Radiators in Newcastle will repair the later TVR rads. HHC use them and they have recently done a great job on the rad from my 3000M. No need to automatically replace a damaged one although they did say that if the plastic ends are badly damaged, they can't repair.

Well lad on the phone was only giving me an estimate so maybe he was just over compensating to be on safe side? I've been told plastic bits at the sides are the worst bit and need crimping back on now and then and thats the reason i want an upgrade really. As its a long way to my nearest TVR specialist and i don't want to be popping there with small problems like that ( or any problems for that matter )

Had mesh in my intake after replacing radiator but failure was the usual crimped plastic end tanks.

Didn't help myself by putting a very small
number plate to assist with air flow...

Mine just went, switched to an alloy. To be honest I always knew it would go, so I am glad I now have a leven one. Had it done at the TVR centre.

Is there any noticeable difference? as mine is being swapped tomorrow.

Does it still get into the high 90's when run out?

I'd say there was a difference. Had mine replaced with an alloy one 12 months ago and haven't seen high 90's since. Although to be fair, never saw anything really frightening before it was swapped. Seems to run consistently 2-3 degrees cooler and once the fans kick in they seem to drop the temp to below 90 much quicker. Overall a good investment I think.
