Anyone been to the Italian (Monza) F1 GP? Recommendations?

Afternoon everyone.
I was just wondering whether anyone had been to Monza before to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix?
We are talking about going in September for my buddy's stag do and we are really looking for recommendations about where to stay and what we should do w.r.t. to tickets.
i.e. whether we should get just race day or the full weekend and what stand etc etc.
Is there anything we should know like organising transport to and from the track? Are the roads etc mega busy like Silverstone? I assume most people stay in Milan?
Is it early enough to book somewhere nice to stay or will it be extortionate? I assume the atmosphere will be good and the bars will be full, making it a good/ different stag?

It's probably easiest to get a hotel in Milan - it's then only a short train ride to Monza. Expect to pay silly prices for anything (food, beer, etc) that weekend.
Atmosphere is superb but it's also usually the shortest race of the year - make sure you get a grandstand seat opposite a big screen or you won't have a clue what's happening - inless of course Ferrari are leading, in which case it'll be blatantly obvious from the hysterics of the track commentator!
Personally, I reckon Spa is better though - it's around the same time of year, so maybe worth considering?

Have done 3 Italian GP's and always stayed up towards Como away from Milan. getting into the circuit is not a problem, getting out can be crazy!!
Lots of choices of hotels but remember many will want a minimum of a four night stay with inflated prices.
If you move away from Milan the prices fall as does the variety but there are some top places to enjoy for reasonable money although with the weak pound nothing is cheap in Europe today!

I went last year for my brother's 30th which was as good as a stag do. We stayed in Milan and everthing was fine.
Get the train every day. On Friday/Saturday it take you Monza central and from their they lay on a free shuttle bus to the gates of the park. It takes about 15 minutes from the station and then you have a nice 20 minute walk through the park to the track. Assuming you are not leaving it till the very last minute it is a pleasant enough journey with no overcrowding.
On the Sunday they open up a couple of the provincial station nearer the track. If you stay on the train it will take you to Lesmo and you come off right at the gates for the Lesmo corners. Walk through the gates and through a tunnel and you are inside the track. From there you can follow the track all the way round. You will even get a nice view of the old banking.
As far as drink goes it is prohibitively expensive at the track but there is nothing to stop you from bringing in as much as you want. We went to the supermarket and filled the rucksacks the night before. There is not much else you can do for food unless you fancy making up sandwiches for your fellow staggers. The food was not too badly priced though.
On the Sunday make sure you stay beyond the podiium and you can walk the track. It is amazing seeing all the subtleties of the track you miss on the TV coverage.
The only other advice I have is stay away from the Crazy Finns. They get you drunk.

The Lakes would be cool, but is there any nightlife up there?
