How to find out what type of BA plane you're travelling on?
Discussion
My missus has got a bee in her bonnet about possibly having to travel on a Boeing 777, after the recent statement that another crash is probable if the design fault on the engine isn't sorted. We're traveling by BA (long haul) in early April and the plane is likely to be a either a Boeing 747 or 777. Personally, doesn't bother me in the least, I tend to be pretty mathematical about these things - but the wife worries
So how do I find out what specific BA plane will (most likely) be flying to the destination? You can't work it out from the BA website.

Go to book a (hypothetical) flight on-line and when you drill down into the flight details, it tells you the aircraft. Bear in mind that different aircraft are used on each route (eg. London<->New York can be either 777 or 474). HTH.

You dont. You tell the wife you rang up and they said it would be a 747. Job done.
Most people can tell a 747 from the hump. So tell her it's an A340 instead

ps - hope you don't crash else i'll feel bad
I flew on one of the 15 last night (G-YMMN ~ it was G-YMMM that crashed) - seemed okay to me!
Do bear in mind that there are equipment changes too (usually further out so it is less likely to change now ...) - our flight to JFK in April changed from a 747 to a 777, luckily more award availability opened up and we were able to change back to the 747 - I'd been looking forward to seeing the slightly forward view out of the windows in the nose!
The ideas above will show the aircraft type - make sure you check your flight on the specific day - in BA's Manage My Booking if you click on the flight number it gives flight details including aircraft type.

Tell her that crashes in 777 are 100% survivable. In the 15 year operational history of the aircraft there has been ONE hull loss (the BA incident) and no fatalities. That is a pretty impressive record and better than the 747 managed.
And then, of course, it'll turn out to be a 747

When you travelling and where to, I'll check with a friend of a friend.
Cheers. BA 0243 to Mexico City on April 1 and 14:05.The real challenge will be if it is a 777 - about a 40% chance I calculate!
'tis a 747.
