Are there any places in the Midlands that I can take BG junior so he can drive around a bit? Not really thinking of large public car parks like a closed supermarket or the roads at the back of an industrial estate at a weekend. More along the lines of private roads, farm tracks, airfields, circuits and the like?

Thank you.

when i did this we just used to drive around the countryside and find some tracks and do what we wanted as there was never anyone around, you can sometime get onto langar airfield in the evening but (have good memories of being thrown around in my mate scoobe estate though the corners at 100+ wink ) might be worth a look but you sometimes got chased off so needed to know when to boot it even as a learner, im sure little BG will follow in his farthers footsteps with this manover wink

How old is he? If he's around 14, you could get in touch with the Under 17 Car Club.

There used to be a place in Sheffield, road junctions and the like all laid out, for a small fee you could drive on it, that's where I taught Jnr to drive, not shore if it still exists, when I remember the name that is on the tip of my tongue I will post it.

depending on how generous you are feeling, there is a place near Coventry that does Ferrrai/Lambo/AM driving for kids - all dual controlled.

wozza,
been thinking about this all morning and where you can and cant drive, one of your other options maybe the park estate in nottingham, as this is a private estate and not policed by the BiB because it is a 'private' eastate you can drive your car with no tax mot etc etc (i know a guy who has an origional racing jenson interceptor which is not road legal but he uses it there to keep it running sweet!! cloud9

so maybe this could be a goer? also maybe google earth is your friend to find some off road tracks???

nono

That's gonna lead to tears before bedtime. It may be a private estate but it would still be considered a public highway in legal terms as it's accessible to the public. It's the same for things like supermarket carparks and the like.

Don't go there (girlfriend) wink

i think (bear in mind i cant even remember what i had for lunch) it has the 7.2 'standard engine' but its an all alloy block running silly bhp, race box and clutch, one of only 2 or 3 or poss the only one that was used in a certain race series (cant remember which one) but if you are around on a sunny evening or a sunday you will be sure to see him working on it. when i spoke with him last summer he was trying to get it back race ready for this season so keep an eye out!!

HTH
and is roughly what i remember.....

Colleague has taken his lad to this place over at Grantham.

http://www.manbymotorplex.com/res_website.asp?supp...

Also had a mail from Motorsport Events the other day who run Airfield Trackdays. They are offering a junior drive thing in your own car during the lunch break at the track days. Don't know whether its a bolt on to the trackday or can be booked seperately.
Also MSE aren't really known for doing airfields in the Midlands.

Also this lot based on an airfield near Loughborough. Don't know if they do junior driving things though.

I learned to drive on Langar Airfield. Just make sure the parachute school isn't operating at the time though...

I'm not if sure you can still get on but you always used to be able to when I were a lad.

Warren, last time I enquired (about three years ago though..) you could hire Bruntingthorpe for £50 an hour with 2 hours minimum. There may be some other cars there testing or the odd bike, but as long as theres the understanding of eachothers space - you could pretty much do what you like I think?

I certainly considered destroying our old Tyres sliding out of the bottom hairpin there at the time, wish I had done it now. frown
