I've noticed that my gearstick is not quite sitting between 3rd and 4th done a bit of reading about and it could be 2 things; the oil needs changing or the linkage and brushes need replacing. Going to have a go at replacing the oil first looks to be pretty straight forward so would like to give it a go.

Was going to replace it with about 3 litres of this:

Any hints on what to do other than what is on the Sandsmuseum site?

Is your car a 111r? Looking at the info in your profile I wasn't sure, if it's not the guide on Sands won't be much good as it's instructions for a Toyota engined car

Nope its a K series, best have a careful look first. Are the workshop manuals you get on Fleabay useful for this sort of thing?

I'd put money on it being the linkage.

Get the eliseparts gear linkage kit. Made a world of difference to mine. Much more positive gearchange and stick centres properly.

your find that the bell crank linkage is full of muck and gunge.Needs cleaning out and regreasing. Also just get a set of the nylon replacement gear linkage bushes from e-bay for £17. Much cheaper than Eliseparts bits, but do the same job.The only difference is that you don't get the rose joints, which when I did mine with the ebay kit, rose joints were fine anyway. All instructions are there and will transform the linkage and gear change. He also does a kit with a short shift, which might be worth buying both together. The linkage and bell crank job will take an hour or so as you have to remove the under tray .

Excellent, I shall certainly have a look this weekend to see about cleaning it out, seems a shame to be working on the car when there is so much good weather on the horizon, should be out driving it smile

I sometimes find my gear stick gets caught between 2nd and 3rd. Also, when I put it in reverse, about 50% of the time it doesn't go in properly and you hear a loud and horrid winding noise. I don't think it does any damage though so I have never done anything about it. Would this be a gear linkage problem as well? Or something different?

Car is a S2 standard K-Series.

Cheers

I would look at bleeding the clutch hydraulics and see if that makes a difference.

Same car, not too bad going into reverse, just thought it was being new to a proper gearbox smile
