does this happen to anyone else?

Occasionally on startup there is a high pitched whine for about 2 minutes, its a bit like a fan. Not too worried but wondered if all cars do this.

Secondly does anyone know what it is that triggers the passenger sunvisor vanity light to go off, I cant find it and mine is at blast furnace temperatures after about 20 mins of driving.

Thanks.

The whine you refer to, I also get. It is the aircon compressor. When my car was new it happened every time I started the engine. Now, its not so often.

As regards the passenger vanity light, why does it blast hot air? Have you got 2 issues confused or am I being thick?

Get the high pitched whine occasionally too, figured it was the air con but glad to have it confirmed!

As regards the vanity light, not noticed that myself - obviously my passengers are not looking after their make up!

let us know david. worth remembering that these things often mean a dodgy sensor rather than anything else. fingers crossed it's just some 'character'.

Dave

The check engine light will come on a lot. I agreed with Meridien that if it went away on a restart then it was ok. Have you had limp home mode as well yet?

Check that all the campaigns have been done as some of the check engine 'action' relates to the brakes. It is often sensors (there's loads of them and they are covered by the warranty - another valet for free there!) or perished turbo pipes (your wallet here). Sometimes it happens when you go from fast to slow driving (and reverse) and relates to emissions - can't fix this one though.

I pulled my hair out at check engine lights in the first six months but then realised that you have to accept it or sell the car. For what it's worth 3200's rarely break down. Just switch off, restart and book it in for a few weeks hence when the computer will have logged enough info for the garage to sort things out (plus the seats might be black by then!).

Craig, that sounds like the fridge light problem! I think mine goes off when it's shut.

David, I've never had a check engine light (touching wood) but did have oil pressure variances caused by a sensor.

I also had the "check engine" light come on just after I bought the car. Graypaul told me not to worry so long as it goes out by the 3rd or 5th restart (can't remember which) - the ECU logs a fault for a period of time and if its minor or has been fixed the light goes out - if not it stays on.

Last time it came on was when I spun the car at the 'Ring in April. Oops!

The noise what you are talking about from start up is the non return valve that sits behind the LH air filter .Try it from cold and listen to the valve if it is the valve change it.

I get a high pitched whine in mine when I floor the accelerator.

Funny, it only happens when I have a nervous passenger.
