Can anyone help ? I have an 97 vintage A4 1.8t which has been 100% reliable over the past 10 years of ownership, until now....

Last few days its started firing from cold or warm then immediately cuts outs as is its apparently starved of fuel. This occurs 2-3 times then starts & runs normally, although i expect it to deterirate. A local indy has found no fault on the code reader and can offer no solution.

Anyone experienced this type of issue before and willing to share their findings?

Any help appreciated

I've heard of this problem (I have the same vintage 1.8t too) and it normally needs the MAF (airflow meter) cleaned or replaced. Most people plump for the latter.

Google "Audi A4 MAF" for more info.

The key light isnt flashing on the dash is it. Sounds like an immobiliser issue to me.

To clarify its starts fine, but runs for a second then cuts out. Exactly the same hot or cold.

Absoluteley correct. In fact now you have said that, i recall a year ago the fault code reader showing an immobiliser fault although there was no apparrent problem at the time or since. Would this not start at all if it were ?

Paul - thanks for your response. I can't send you a PPM, however, my fault code reader has confirmed what you suggested ie immobiliser/ transponder issue.

So in value of your experience what are the options to get a new key pack & reprogramme avoiding the main dealer? Can this be done yourself ?
I noticed a proceedure issue on the VWAudi forums which sounded a bit like a mason greeting.
