What if Driver 'A' wins 8 races but fails to finish any others....and Driver 'B' wins 7 races but finishes second in the rest?
On a normal points system driver 'B' would win the WDC by a huge margin, however he'll lose it based on this new charade.
This new system is crap. And unfair.

I agree totally. Imagine them doing this in football. This is all because the FIA didn't want Lewis to win the title last year. How sad.
Couldn't disagree more, 5 wins and 12 2nd places will now lose to 6 wins and 11 DNF's a riduculous state of affairs. Somebody with one lucky win in year will finish above people with good solid consistent seasons.
This isn't the olympics where it's all down the performance on the day, it's a season and consistency should count. Each grand prix in itself is an event and winning that and top points is reward enough.

te.Another side effect is that teams will build 'one race' engines.
It will force them to go for the win in every other race with a stonker of an engine. That way they could potentially win half the races thus tying up the WDC and being unbeatable.

Also how many unnecessary accidents are there going to be, because lets face it if the top 2 in the championship are battling for the win, and 2nd is worth nothing, you are inviting people to take silly risks to get passed as they have nothing to lose. May be a few people sat in 3rd position will get lucky late on in races this season.
Under the old points system, how many times do you get 3/4 in to a race and everyone just settles for where they are? The old points system know one raced to the flag. With a "winner takes all" approach we are more likely to see some close and feisty finished. I prefer the Lewis/Kimi type fight at the closing stages of Spa to the play it safe approach Lewis took during his first season.

What incentive is there for the lower places in a race, what if a driver wins the first 9 races in the season? He can take an early holiday as there is no point in the team even bothering to turn up!
I can not believe this rule has got through. The drivers don't like it, the teams don't like it and the REAL fans of F1 hate it with a passion.
Why did the FIA headed up by that prick 'the spank' bother to canvas the fans last year, we all knew he would take no notice.
Can this be turned around in time to prevent F1 looking like a joke yet again...

The FOTA proposal to change the points structure would have incentivised drivers to go for it more - with a greater difference between 1-2-3.Bluequay said:

Agreed, the reds will always be helped out by the FIA. Overall though I think it is a good thing, only time will tell. Lets hope Jenson wins the first 8 races then! He can go on holiday for the second half of the season... or give his seat to Bruno Senna!
