Tidy engine bay

Its been a cold but productive winter !
Much easier to do this kinda stuff now my bonnet can be opened easily.
I know its slightly sad, but I enjoyed myself (not so sure my wife saw it that way)

Nice job! I'm really starting to like the idea of a hinged bonnet, I've always tried to keep the engine bay tidy on my cars and the Tusc's gubbins look great when preened.

Did you clean the chassis too? Looks mint!

I cleaned it and nothing much more. Got very lucky with the condition of the car. Seems that the oil and dirt kept the chassis in pristine condition...so now its clean i'll have to keep an eye on it (have put a light covering of WD40 all over to help protect it)

The only rusty bit was the bare patch where the chassis number is stamped in...so wire brushed that and I came up all shiney and nice.

All bolts replaced with stainless, new silicone water hoses (have the old set for sale if anyone wants them), powder coated cam cover and fabricated gasket for it (and the top speed six plug cover too) from nitrile rubber pond liner (works a treat! amazingly heat resistant) and cleaned and scrubbed engine and chassis with Flash and rinse with hand pump sprayer about 4 times to get it nice and clean. Used air line to blow out excess water.

Its good to get to know the engine bay this well as it has removed a level of "fear factor" in case something falls off ;-)

Not sad at all Pete................. Looks like were on the same wave length, I spent the last month or so on the chassis and I'm just moving onto the engine bay.

I must admit the fact the bonnet does not open has saved me a fair bit of elbow grease over the years

I'm still waiting for a bodyshop in the south east to do a drive in/out quality hinge bonnet conversion for £499.

Where did u get the nitrile from and what thickness did you use. Have just had my cam cover powder coated too (as an addition to upgrade and rebuild at Dulfords) so dont fancy using the silicon seal all the time.

local garden centre has a fish/pond section
Rubber was made by Goodyear I think
I got the "good stuff"...it has a kind of silvery
sheen. About 1.5mm thick
