What is the REAL price for building a working GTR?

The Ultima site provides a quote for £14,397 ($24,000) for the kit, but I don't know what else would I need to complete the car. An engine is about $13000 and a gearbox is $2000, but I find it hard to beleive that the toal of $39,000 will be nearly enough.
A big problem for me is the interior. I think it is really plain, and it doesn't offer much (except basics). Have you come across some information about the interior and if it's possible to "civilize" it?

There are many and varied ways to trim the interior. All you need do is get a trim specialist to do the work to your taste.
However an Ultima is a race car derived road car and the spartan interior is the way it should be.

Edit: Reference the prices, doing a search for the word 'spreadsheet' should find you a thread a little while back with US owners build costs.

The Ultima is a road car derived road car. They have been raced by various people at various levels, but it was originally designed for the road, and the amount of work that you need to do to get it race ready is quite substantial.
If you want a race car derived road car, go for a Stealth B6

My understanding of the 'Stealth B6' is that it was based on the ultima as info in a road test taken from their own site suggests:-
Bob Light specialises in precision engineering and has been building cars to his own design since the early ’60s. He used to race an Ultima but decided it could be improved upon - the Stealth is the result. One of his aims was to reduce the understeer, so he added eight inches to the Ultima’s wheelbase and redesigned the rear suspension, including lengthening the wishbones, to give less camber change. Somehow he even managed to lighten the car by around 70kg, mainly through the new nose and tail sections, which was quite a feat given that the car weighed only 990kg in the first place.
If I am following this correctly that makes the Stealth B6 a "road car derived road car derived race car derived road car" either way it is still building on the Ultima experience.
But I think 'race car inspired' should keep most happy.

I've found a few answers to my questions now, and the more I look into it the more expensive the Ultima GTR gets... Since I live in the US, I'm looking at about $75000 for every part I need to build the GTR, and I was hoping to sell one for about $100K, but now it's gonna be more like $140K and it's gonna be a lot harder to find a buyer....
The bad part is that I can get a fully assembled GTR from the factory in USA for $89K - engine and transmission...

The Stealth B6 is substantially different from the GTR in many ways. The B6 chassis is based on the prosport and not really the GTR. There are obviously similarities in design between the Ultima and Prosport as they were penned by the same person and using common parts (for ease of construction etc.). But Bob Light and the B6 took this chassis (prosport) onto another level. It is therefore possible to see a bit of family history between the cars, but really that is all.

Funny you should ask - I'm pondering dropping wedge on one as well - so I banged everying into an XL spreadsheet to really let me know what sort of green I was commiting to.
Now I'll freely admit I'm thinking of going for a pretty high spec car (if it's worth doing it's worth doing right yea ?) - and alot of stuff could be left off for later - my list included acusump,oil cooler, big assed brakes, AC, heater, those foxy ultima wheels, GT spec rear wing and RAC cage.
But my totals looked like around $60k with no motor.
Add about motor and other incedentals - I think a mutts nutts specced Ultima will be about $80K.
Basically the "options" list is what kills you - I got through 30K on that list alone - and I still need guages and a few other bits and bobs.
The thing to remember is you are buildig a supercar that will spank the pants off pretty much anything on the road - you also get the pleasure of crafting it yourself.
Even at 80k I think it's cheap performance.

And no I'm pretty sure the factory builds them as complete cars, maybe rolling chassis if you're lucky.
I also doubt it's 75k in parts unless you're building a high spec car. I think I remember a few around here saying it can be done for around 45-50k. This is a budget Ultima though. Think most builds here would be at least 55k to maybe 65-70k.
