Quick question... I have a few job applications to do and of course there is the usual section asking for a personal statement giving reasons why the organisation should employ you.

The questions is, what is the best way of starting this off?? I'm just curious really as to different ways of doing this. One of the roles I really want, so I want to give myself as good a chance as possible of getting an interview at least.

Once i'm into the statement its fine, its purely just how to get it started.

Thanks all !!

Depends on the company and the role?

Employ me because I will always give 100%?

People that always give 100% cant raise their game when yiu need them too. Useless in a crisis.

COast along at 65%, raise your game when needed. This is how you become successful, not by killing yourself in the daily grind.

You should also mention charity work somewhere even if it's utter lies...

I always took the pragmatic view that the fact I'd applied for the job and gone to the trouble of turning up for an interview was sufficient proof that I wanted the job.

I remember spending a few days writing model answers to the standard interview questions like "Give an example of when you've ....", "What sets you apart from other canididates?" and "What would you consider your weaknesses" etc.

All that preparation and I was met with a sodding "personality test", then some fat tosser outlined what my "fears" and had the audacity to tell me "what sort of person I was"...

The lack of intelligence when interviewing people baffles me. It's even worse if and when you get the job and you have to work with the same fkwit and pretend to respect their decision.

It's also quite bad, apparently, to question the questions in an interview. I may have done this recently. But only because the wording was quite odd, and I felt the need to actually ask what they wanted to know. Otherwise, in the job form, usual balls applies. Team player, but able to work alone; happy to lead, able to follow; willing to learn, but quite experienced; able to work from home, but not fussed about travel.

Very good. Also, people are not sausage machines, so there is no "100%". Everyone has a different capacity for work, and a different set of conditions or working patterns which give the best productivity (in the roundest sense) over time.

So something "this job/workplace seems like somewhere where I could be very effective, and would be motivated to achieve".

Or on a more human note "The people here seem clever, well-motivated and fun. This is an environment in which I think I could be very effective, and enjoy myself at the same time".

Start it with "I am awesome".

And then explain why you're awesome.

"Employ me because...

...my CV is truthful. I am who I say I am so give me a chance and I will exceed your expectations.
I expressed myself this way because I despise management speak and would rather walk the walk than talk the talk."

Personally if I had to fill all that crap in I wouldn't apply for the job.

"I am awsome, can wheelie over 3 meters and have my own nunchucks. When you give me the job I will even give you a picture of me wheelying which should increase sales by over 400% if added to any leaflet or website."

Frankly they would have to be crazy not to employ somone whith an answer like that. If questioned give an awsome hand sign and tell them not to ask daft questions.

Such is the way of the world these days. The vast majority of direct application jobs now ask for a supporting statement of some description, and certainly is the case with all University's i've come across.
