Pioneer Avic X3 compatible with iphone 3G

I have recently bought a Pioneer X3 for my TVR. I tried to connect my Iphone 3G to the ipod connector and a message came up on the phone screen saying not compatible. It works with my other ipods! Does anybody experienced the same issue?

I had a similar problem that the phone was not compatible yet the ipods are. (Turned out to be whatever way the pins are in the connector) This rectified it for me :

The weird thing was, that when i first bought the iphone it worked brilliantly through the avic. Then one morning about a month into ownership it became incompatible. Maybe it was when I upgraded the software through itunes. Who knows!
