I think that if everone who puchases an AMV8 or any aston for that matter puts as much effort into research etc as I did its very easy to talk yourself out of buying your dream car. When parting with such large sums, you are bound to have doubts. When looking at buying a 911 I did as much research as I could, mainly Internet related and came across lots of issues which if I'd really taken to heart may have swayed my decision.(Just google 911 and RMS). Lots of things can be blown out of proportion when people get together to discus problems, after all thats what forums are good for. It would be a shame if someone was put off this excellent car, which i'm sure lots of people have had no problems with,(Including me!-touching lots of wood) based on someones bad experience. At the end of the day though you have to make your own decision, its just worth remembering that people that havn't had any problems don't always shout about it!

(I'm now going to climb back in my hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

My AM experience has been extremely positive, despite a couple of niggles and being stranded due to a faulty part...

What really makes a difference is that the dealership made every effort to sort out problems, arranging courtesy cars etc. Good service makes all the difference.

If I have learned anything from my experience, don't let AM assitance reset youyr error codes without noting things down - my "assitance" didn't even have a compatible code reader!!! It will make it much easier to diagnose faults if the codes are left on the ECU.

So if your tech suggests pulling the battery terminal for a quick fix - grill them!!

I completely agree, the V8 vantage and DB9 are great cars, the majority of the work we do is wear and tear and servicing, some have niggles but overall very good, i see quite a few cars that are used by hire companies, and as you can imagine they can be severely abused and still they don't break them,

I just (literally) sold my DB9 after 4 year of brilliant ownership and I can tell that it was absolutely faultless throughout the 4 years. Aston Martin has come a long way since the hit and miss reliability of the DB7 and the Vanquish.

The buyer handed over the cheque and immediately after rammed it into the speedbump - it made my hart bleed. Normally, the sound of hitting the speedbump is worse than the actual damage, however and admittedly the accelerator is quite tricky and needs getting used to.

Im afraid nowadays with the internet, we all can tend to do just a little bit toooo much research into things .....and of course those who've had problems always shout loudest ...the other 100,000 happy customers are not all searching out a place to tell everyone they are so happy...but the 100 unhappy ones are always looking for someone to moan at

...same with most stuff really ...i work in the consumer electronics/network hardware industry and you always see people saying "brand x is better than brand y because I went on brand y forums and saw lots had problems" ...which of course is completely meaningless, as brand x probably could sell 10 units a month, compared with brand y selling 10,000 a month - and on a "support forum" one would expect to find people with problems looking for answers....its not after all a "fanclub forum " to say how happy you are LOL :P

.....in the end you just occasionally have to make a decision and follow your heart and go for it - life is too short to regret not doing stuff as they say smile

All of us would be driving 3 yr old Volvo diesels, nice n safe n economical if we were to be sensible with out money LOL smile

//dont whatever you do ever sit down and work out how much your sportscar habit has cost you in a lifetime, otherwise you could realise that you could have retired years ago LOL wink

Interesting point re the numbers - does any body know roughly how many DB9's and how many v8v's exist and roughly how many people with either car contribute to the Aston section of Pistonheads . Are we a tiny minority of nutters or a meaningful sample ?
