One of the workhorses in the family is a 2002 Accord Sport hatchback 1.8vtec.

Its done 70k and think the clutch may be on its way. It "clicks" everytime I press it, as in a proper mechanical-feel-it-through-the-pedal click and it also struggles to pull away on hills as the biting point seems to be non-existent.

Its absoutely fine normal driving (apart from the click!) and engaging/selecting gears.

Now, I know nothing about cars, am I right in thinking its going to need a new clutch or just a "part" of the clutch. Any ideas on what I should be looking to pay?

sounds like one of the springs has gone in the pressure plate but your better of replacing the whole clutch assembly inc release bearing while they've got the gearbox out if its been slipping friction plate will be worn, but also worth checking the clutch pedal/system for any other faults is the clucth opperated with a cable or hydrulics.

I had a quick look in the footwell and it looks hydraulic to me. It is also not slipping at all.

What should I be looking to pay at a main dealer or independent?

Definately needs a pressure plate and I would get clutch replaced at the same time, also get the spigot bearing replaced also. Its often over looked but will cost same amount of labour to remove g/box again if fails once you've had clutch replaced.

Not sure on cost though, it will vary alot so shop around
