Bypass HK amplifier in Disco 2
Discussion
I have now picked up my Disco 2 ES TD5 2003 and very pleased with it I am. First thing to do is to remove the existing sat nav unit and replace with my head unit because it has iPod & bluetooth for my phone. All worked straight away but i noticed a bit of hiss when the ipod wasnt playing. This i deduced meant the presence of a seperate amplifier. I dont want to send an amplified signal from my head unit into said amp as it will not be rated to recieve that level of input. I have removed fuse 17 which cut out all sound which meant 2 things. A) there is a seperate amp and B) the signal does not route through to the speakers when off. It seems that I will manually have to bypass the amp or send an un-amplified signal to it. However the 2nd option is tricky as the iso plug seems to have the standard eight wire (4 pairs) speaker block which means all 4 signals (LF RF LR RR) are sent to the amp which wont work by sending the un-amped rca signal outs down these wires as I will lose balance and fader funtions.
Surely there is an easier way...someone must have done this before.
Please dont suggest leaving the original unit in as I would rather re-wire the speakers manually.
Hope you can help.
