This was sent to me copied from the Lotus 7 forum...Just about sums it up really.

So I have a new toy. Something to be (hopefully) admired by the discerning, and parked carefully away from the jealous.
Something a little special, to be used in all weathers when I cant drive my wonderful little blue beastie.
A Teutonic thoroughbred no less.
Okay, so when Mark appears with his 599 I would have to stand and admire, like everyone else.
But my particular Porker really is a nice-looking example of a 996 C4. Ask anyone on BC who has seen it. Very low, genuine mileage. GT3 body kit. GT3 alloys and tyres. Porsche lowered suspension option. And not even drab inside, this one. Lots of alloy trim to brighten up the otherwise slightly dreary interior. Good quality leather, too, on the dash and doors, nary a sight of plastic.
All-n-all a nice, special-looking example.
And she just flies, doesn’t she. I mean this is what Porkers are all about; the driving experience, response, handling, the indomitable togetherness of a German thoroughbred.
Well, not quite. Something’s missing in this picture of perfection, and I think it’s called soul.
Point-to-point, the car is blisteringly fast, especially in the wet. But the trick suspension and fancy rubber don’t stop it tram lining. Nor do they make it feel special. You drive around a corner. It goes around, take it 10 mph faster this time. It goes around. Another 10 mph faster ……. You get the picture. No drama, no fuss, and no enjoyment.
And the flat 6 bellow of that superb engine ……. can hardly be heard, even with a Techart exhaust system fitted.
The car is way too quiet; too refined and accomplished.
All head, no heart.
Didn’t expect Porsche ownership to be like this. Didn’t expect to feel that I’m not that bothered whether I get in my Nissan Note or my 996 in the morning. Didn’t expect that a motoring icon would leave me feeling cold.

Reminded me of this comment I saw on PH before I took the plunge into TVR ownership:

"I often feel that a Porsche is like a prostitute. Not very nice to look
at but eminently capable, and almost clinical about its abilities.
Something one should probably try for the experience, but suffers from
having no passion.

Ultimately people who own Porsches are rather like people who regularly
use prostitutes, they sadly seemed to have lost out somewhere along the
line, and when you hear them bragging about their latest conquest you
ultimately find yourself feeling sorry for them.

As opposed to a TVR, which is more like a wife - Cheap to acquire, costs
a fortune to run and only goes when it's in the mood."

Can't have been a 996, then.

They have one of the worst quality interiors of any car since the inglorious days of Wartburg and Zastava - all due to their abysmally cheap plastics - and tbh, I think the Soviet Bloc era family saloons might just shade it anyway.

Owned a Porsche. A 3.2 1984 coupe. Perfect! These were without ABS etc. and most important....the aircooled flat sixes.

Not a nice car to look at? It's like a Coca Cola bottle. Over the years they change it a little bit and all over the world this car is recognised and loved. Because it's beautifull!

Now own a Cerbera. Certainlty not known all over the world, but what a headturner.

My ultimate Porker is a 993 Turbo. The 996's are cheap for a reason and the 997 started to look like how a 911 should look again. Personal taste.
