968 Pinion Bearing Repair

Chaps,

After deciding to keep my 968 and a smile returning to my gob, it seems it's going to get wiped off pretty quickly again. The gearbox is starting to sound a bit suspect (lift off gas, low whining noise).

I've rung a specialist in Wiltshire this morning he is estimating £1.5k plus VAT to sort it (assuming nothing else needs replacing at the same time...)

Is this the going rate?? I've read of some chaps on 968.net getting the pinion bearings done for about a grand all in (up't north though) so obviously there's a fair gap cost wise.

Anyone have any recommendations for people to ask in the South West/M4 corridor?

I have heard of pinion bearings costing this. although I fail to see why it should be so expensive, i can only imagine it is the parts cost

If you ever tried stripping and rebuilding a 968 'box, you would know why they cost a grand a time to do! They are a complete pain to build, one a year is more than enough for me.

yep its mostly labour, gt-one in chertsey qouted me 1200 all in i think, i feared the worst but it turned out to be a shot rear wheel bearing
