I want a speedo!

I'm doing lots of travelling by bike at the moment and I think it would be a little more motivational if I had something to tell me how fast I'm going and how far I've gone overall and maybe a basic stopwatch feature.

The problem is budget. Under a tenner would be great. Any suggestions?

Keep an eye out at Aldi for the next time they get bike stuff in, I got a great little computer for not much money. Wireless with a heart rate monitor. Does everything you'd need.

Cateyes are always reliable, but there are loads of others out there. even the ones from Argos fro about £6 do the job.

I personally would not bother with a wireless one. Cost more, use more batteries, and i have had niggly problems with mine

Having torn off several sensors and associated wiring due to unplanned bike / scenery interfaces, I am now firmly in the wireless camp.

Have a Cateye Micro, which despite having been used daily on the commuter bike seems to only need a set of batteries about once a year if that. More than a tenner, though.

Strange, i have a cateye wireless on one of my bikes, and it drinks batteries and decides to give strange readings every so often.

I had a cateye wireless on mine for about 5 years, no problems with it. Never had to replace the battery, but a couple of years ago it just stopped working. 5 years use isn't bad though.

From this Thursday.

They had some wireless ones a couple of months ago that sold out instantly (they were £3.40) subsequently there were literally hundreds listed on Ebay for about £15 - 20 Here is a link to the wireless ones now only available via ebay

i have a wireless one from argos. i think it was around a tenner. its pretty good, has cumulative, trip, max speed and a clock on it plus a speedo (obviously!) its not the most sleek of units and isnt particularly pretty but then its sat between two lights on the handlebars so its not like the bike looks particualrly svelte at the moment anyway....

I noticed my local Tesco has a load of cheap own brand bike stuff, including cycle computers both wired and wireless.

I bought a spare pump for £4 and a bottle with bracket for £4, not bad!

Thanks to this thread, I paid a visit to Lidl this morning . Picked up the computer and the glasses as a stick in the Camelback in case I forget my other ones" set. Both seem to be OK quality for the money. Haven't bothered setting the computer up yet but will report back as soon as it is working.

Can you but a wireless computer with two sets of sensors, so you can use it on both bikes?

Cateye do a 2nd Bike kit which is basically everything bar the actual computer.

My Trek incite computer decided to give up the ghost at the weekend after just a few years of moderate use. At first i thought it was the battery so changed that, but there is clearly no signal going up thw wire from the sensor to the computer. Time for a new one methinks - am tempted to try one of the Blackburn Delphi's.
