I am sorry but he really does himself no favours, on the one hand he says that they should listen to the teams as this will imporve the sport on the other he says they should listen to the fans. Why listen to the teams, they are in it to win and for their best interests. If they could they would suggest every other team having a weight penalty etc.
IMO F1 will be a much better sport with the recent rule change. The fact that he would rather sit 30 car lengths in front of second is beyond me. Perhaps all of this ramble about his car under performing is true and he is scared that he might loose the title?
I really dislike the guy I have to say.

It all just seems pointless to me, yes on one hand it rewards real racing, and might mean we see a few more close battles up front, however it will be to the detriment of the consistent teams like BMW and Toyota who's reward for steading development of their cars is a fighting chance at winning the World Championship, not much chance of that now!
I think his central point was that someone could have an erratic year, score four wins and then have a host of DNFs, but beat a driver who'd got three wins, a bunch of seconds, and who'd managed to get the car to the line a lot more frequently. Basically, get lucky a few times, punt the main challenger off the track in the case of a challenge (Senna and Schumacher were very good at this) and the title's yours.
Personally, I'd have modified the scoring so that you get, say, 15 points for a win, 8 for second, 5 for third etc. That way you're clearly incentivised to go for the win, but consistency would also be rewarded, though to a lesser degree than in the 2008 season.

Schumacher was reported not to think it was a good idea either. Does that make it more palletable?

How can you complain though, atleast it means that people wont sit out the chance to get first.
Think about it, when a driver is second and is leading on points but has the same amount of wins as the other driver he is going to push his hardest to get the top spot.
It will make for more competative racing, thats certain and you only have to look at last year to realise that it is a dying sport in need of a change.

Lewis is right, we, the fans, have expressed our views in the ING F1 survey a couple of months ago, and the FOTA expressed their views. So what does the FIA do? Go ahead and totally ignore what practically everyone else wants and devalue the WDC. Theoretically a team could put all its resources behind one of its drivers for half the season, making sure they dominate every race, then once they've won all of the first half of the races, not even bother turning up at another GP and still their driver would be WDC. Pretty much pointless, as I've said time and time again (and so have many others) they should have stuck with 10-6-4-3-2-1 as the points structure, it was so much easier and 4 points gap between 1st & 2nd is much more rewarding and would persuade the driver to go for the win (look at Mansell/Senna, all or nothing charges to the front duking it out for the lead).
And the budget cap thing is both ridiculous and good at the same time. Sure, it'll bring in the small independent teams (Prodrive would be a good start) but giving them pretty much technical freedom in return for not spending over £30m, is a bit silly, who's going to police the teams who agree to stick to the budget? And what's to stop a team getting bits out of their parts bins and therefore claiming that this area of development didn't cost us a penny?
And don't flame Lewis for speaking out, Alonso and Schumacher have said pretty much the same thing.

The daft thing about last seasons points system is that you could have finished THIRD in every race (a DNF allowed for in one race too!) and won the chamionship.
You could also have won half the races and DNF the other half and not won.
I favour the larger point margin, e.g:
1=15
2=10
3=7
4=5
5=4
6=3
7=2
8=1
Seems such an obvious system, why it hasn't been used is beyond me.
