facelift and new engine?

Hi,

I've been looking at Tamora's lately and have a basic question.

The Tamora's seem to have had a facelift around late '03, would that tie in to the same time as the stronger engine parts were being used? ie, can I relate a new face car to having a stronger engine?

(forgive me if its a basic question, I'm am but a beginner)

Personaly (dons flame suit) I think it is only the very early sp6 engines that had really bad problems, with a proper warm up and some distinct mechanical sympathy an sp6 will be fine. Mine is a 2002 (pre facelift)at 26k ish always been well looked after and is absolutley fine. Where as you have others that have been thrashed from cold and blow up at 5k. Pick a good un and you will love it.

in 2004 TVR did start using stronger components on the sp6 engine.
There are many earlyier models now however with engine re-builds bringing
them to to the same sort of standard or better (if done correctly).

A properly looked after sp6 engine should be fine. mines pushing 34,000 miles now Touch wood now problems.

I have a 2002 Tamora which I had the engine stripped/rebuilt and upgraded (with upgraded parts) from 3.6L to 4.0L to Red Rose Spec, also had ACT air box, alloy radiator, and Nitrons fitted. Absolute awesome now

I don't think theres any hard and fast rule. My 54 plate 350 with 9500 miles on it has just had a bottom end rebuild. Just make sure you treat them right and with a bit of luck it should last.

I did have the top end stripped down and checked at the same time though and it was given a clean bill of health so I'm as confident as I can be I now have a fully sorted engine!

If it helps, our T350 (05) has hit about 23k miles and has had no problems mechanically speaking (bar the clutch change!). As others have said, treating it with sympathy when cold and warming up before thrashing has served us well!

The engines were supposed to have had upgraded parts around 04. My 54 plate T350 recently had a re-build on 19k miles and i was told some of the parts were not the supposed upgraded parts and were old cheaper parts so who knows what TVR did when they built them.

As others have said, look after it well and you shouldn't have many issues.

Did you buy it new? If not, perhaps it's a slightly older car which sat on a forecourt before getting registered (or just a TVR-esk raid the parts bin job).

My 04 plate t350 left me with 18k miles and I last heard it had done 30 odd thousand and was still running sweetly

I think it was probably a parts bin job!

I've done 6k in about 16 months, warmed up correctly, taken care of properly and then started getting problems in November and it was down hill from there!
