Does anyone else think this all rather odd?

FOTA's attack on Mosley's new points system was to be expected just as much as Mosley's was on their, much more sensible, suggestion. But there seems to be a concerted effort.

I can't remember when there's been such a response before. The drivers seem to be lining up to attack Mosley. FOTA has Alonso, Hamilton and MSchuey on their side. The response of the first two does seem to have all the appearance of having been cleared by their teams and MSchuey's doesn't have the glee one would expect from someone who no longer has to be controlled.

I wonder if Ferrari have asked MS for his support.

Even Webber, after supposedly supporting Mosley's change to the points system, then says that his demand for a cap won't happen.

If FOTA can reject Mosley's demand for his system then it would be a big hit just before his election campaign.

The lines are drawn. Mosley seems to have Eccs on his side at the moment and the teams are on the other. However, one only has to think of how Mosley outed Balestre to realise that you need to choose your friends with more care than your enemies.

Mosley's tactics in his farcical 'vote of confidence' allowed him through, despite him only getting a simple majority, not what many people consider to be a vote of confidence, but one wonders if they could possibly work again. How many Arabs are there with brothers who run hedge funds?

This does seem to me to be an organised, maybe even orchestrated, attack on Mosley. Unlike the last time the teams would appear to be unified. Even the non-manufacturer teams are beholden to the likes of McL\aren and Ferrari for engines and technical help.

I used to think that all I wanted was for Mosley to leave F1. Now I'm not so sure. I'd like to see him humiliated as well but that seems impossible when he seemed to relish being discovered with prostitutes.

I had thought that it was strange that the current drivers had been allowed (in this media driven day and age) to let the wider world know that they had an opinion. Let alone one that disagreed with the dictatorship that is mosley and the FIA.
I agree with you that they must have had team backing to have said this, which kind of suggests that the teams have no independent voice anymore and will only speak through FOTA. If this is the case then hopefully the drivers will be allowed to be a tad more vocal about political issues which will, directly, affect them.
If Mosley does fall flat on his face just before the election, I hope there is someone willing to stand against him who will make the right decisions for the sport, rather than line his (and his twofaced mates)pockets.

Jean Todt's moment to seize power anyone?

The teams should stick together more often, but they are like the people in a democractic system. If all oppose a dicatorial change, it cannot stand, but when the teams (the people) are divided, it's taken as an implicit 'yes/ok'.

I would expect that for Michael Schumacher to make a political statement about the changes in F1, such as he has, common courtesy would demand that he would discuss it with Ferrari first as he is still involved with them to some extent.

Good news!

Todt is Mosley's man and is not flavour of the month at Ferrari. He would appear to have little support in the pitlane. Frying pan and fire spring to mind. I can't see him being his own man. He'll have Mosley pulling the strings.

The more I think about the points system the more I think it odd. We had Eccs, for whatever reason, come up with his idea of medals for each race win and then this is taken up by Mosley. Chicken and egg springs to mind. This sudden friendship between the two combatents, Mosley and Eccs, seems very strange as well. They fell out big time after Mosleygate but it had been on the back burner since the Indy FiAsco. And I would assume before that although I didn't see it. And now they are buddies, working together for the greater good.

One wonders who is the spider and which the fly although there's little doubt as to how they see themselves. I've no idea who, or even if either, will win. But I know who will lose. And that's us, the fans.

Totally agree. It would be disaster for Jean Toad to replace the Nazi pervert. What I cannot understand is why the sudden truce between him and the Dwarf......an alliance between them is dangerous for the sport.....I can see it heading in a bad direction in the not too distant future.

I don't honestly think that bernie could hold an alliance with anyone long enough for it to have any effect. As for Jean Todt (toad, nice one cvm hehe ) I think that he would be the worst person top take over the role. As a sport we should be trying to move away from bias towards the red cars. I think we need someone who has worked in a different arena of the sport so there is no bias towards or against any team or driver. Dave Richards anyone?

Perhaps your fears, not to mention mine, in this matter of a collusion between the dwarf and the fascist (didn't the German fascists put all the dwarfs in death camps - where inspections for lice weren't made, at least according to Eady apparently) are groundless. It would appear from reading the FiA statement on the debacle that Mosley reckoned he had been assured by the commercial rights holder that the teams all agreed with the proposal. This despite - well everything I suppose.

I seems like a classic case of buck-passing. If it is then it would appear to be something done in a panic, a face-saving move to cover incompetence. Whilst we don't know all the details, of course, I know which way I would bet.

It is a very odd reaction to blame someone else, especially for those in ivory towers. Why not something along the lines of: 'Assurances were received which now appear to either have been wrong or since withdrawn. The FiA has decided that rather than prolong the confusion this has caused it will take control and revert to the old, rather antiquated system. This is regrettable but the FiA feels morally bound to look to the interests of the spectators, fans and sponsors. A full enquiry will be conducted to ascertain who has let the FiA down so dramatically.'

I used to be a press officer and I can assure everyone that a disaster need only be so until the first press release. Then it becomes a victory.
