Afternoon,

we have recnctly fitted a BMW 325i engine from a G reg tourer into our Triumph 2000.

We are having a few issues with the clutch currently and are a little stuck as to what it could be.
This is the only thing that is holding us up from getting it out on the road for a shakedown and then the track!

The engine had been sat in the car for a few months getting damp whilst we sorted out the electrics which is what we thought was the cause of the seized clutch.

After taking the gearbox off and remvoving the clutch and pressure plate which took a bit of persuasion it would appear that this is not the cause.

The master and slave cylinders are both off the 325i e30 BMW that the engine and box came out of.

What is happening is the Clutch pedal is moving to about half way down before it stops moving. At this position the clutch is not disengaged though.

The gearbox has now been off several times so that we can see what is going on but no joy in getting it functioning!

The bearings are in good order and the box input shaft seems to be okay, doesnt seem to be bent or damaged.
Also the selector fork looks ok, but we have got nothing to judge it against.
It moves freely up and down the input shaft with and wihout the thrust bearing.

Also the slave cylinder does function correctly and strokes fully, but not when its in the box!??????

Any ideas???

Cheers

You didn't mention what pedalbox your using, is the clutch pedal travelling far enough?
Is the clutch fork moving sufficiently? Try levering it with (if necessary disconnect the pushrod)a bar.
Is the clutch plate in the right way.

have you tried rebleeding the clutch slave?

i guess the engine and box were from the same car?
white plastic pivot is still there on the other side of the slave cyl?

is the thrust bearing new, or could that be worn out?

The pedal box it the triumph one but is more than sufficient stroke on it as it is using the BMW master cylinder.

Making up a fixture as we speak to attach and actuate the arm without the hydraulics so we will see.

Cheers

Re-bled system several times, makes no difference.

Engine and box were from the same car and werent dismantled to fit into triumph, so they were fitted as one.

Thurst bearing looks ok.

Next parts to purchase and see would be arm and thrust bearing and see if that helps.

Cheers

Yeah all worked fine in the Donor car.

Made up a bracket with a threaded bar to see if we could actuate the arm without the hydraulics and its fine.
All works!

Strange??!?!?!?!?!?

Going to refit hydraulics and see how it goes, hopefully it works, although I dont know whats different.

Cheers for your help guys.
