Hello all.

I'm tempted to go hoon about Wales for a few days come the long Easter weekend.

From a quick search on here, the roads we need to get in are the Elan Valley, Black Mountains and the Evo Triangle. Am I missing anything?

Will these be packed with caravans come Easter weekend or are they pretty free flowing with good over taking places?

Not looked on a map as yet to their locations within Wales but I was hoping to hop from one place to another without too much driving in-between. This is where you come along and tell me that they're all as far away as possible from each other!!

I've also noticed that on the Sunday, the South Wales section are having a run (150/ 200 miles in route). Might be able to tag on to this and maybe take in some of the above places? I'll have to email the organiser and check this out.

So does this sound do able in 3 days? Lets hope so!

I wouldn't bother with Easter or any weekend in summer unless you can get there at the crack of dawn and do an hour or so before the numpties arrive.

Yes, I'm afraid it will be carnage at easter; the busiest weekend of the year up there. I would wait and head up a few weeks later. It'll just be very frustrating otherwise.

Though in terms of your plan, the route should work out well. You can pick up the A470 from Cardiff and then follow this to Brecon, where you head west over to the Black Mountains.

From there, I would head back to the A470 and then follow this up into mid-Wales and subsequently the Elan Valley.

For me the A470 is pretty much without fault as a road, though I particularly love the section where it runs alongside the River Wye from Brecon through to Rhayader and Llangurig cloud9.

Once you hit Rhayader, you can head over into the Elan Valley and I would highly recommend taking a run down the A44 to Aberystwyth; great bit of road. You've got a couple options then. You could either follow the coast road up to Machynlleth and then Dolgellau which would neatly follow onto the Evo triangle. Or head back down the A44 to Llangurig and pick up the A470 again, which will also bring you out at Dolgellau. I would personally go for the latter, as it's just a great section of road.

Sorry, got a bit carried away, but I just love this kind of stuff! smile

James, please, keep going! Hit the nail on the head with that reply.

So all of the above points I wish to visit are basicly Southish Wales?

We know that it's a pig of a time to go but it's the only time open to us. It's also a good excuse to meet up and hoon about in the stop start traffic. Also if the weathers not a total wreck, I'll wip the camera out and get snapping the scenery. Can't complain with that.

Any other tips, keep them coming.

I have driven a good few roads, precidely for hooning over the last couple of months.
I would recommend these..

Start at chepstow, just over the old severn bridge...

take the b4235 up to usk.
Then the b4598 up to the a40 to crickhowell
Then the b4558 at crickhowel onto the a40 to brecon.
Continue the a40 across from brecon to llandovery
Then the a4069 down to brynnamon.

Then back.....

back up the a4069
a483 builth wells
b4520 from builth to brecon
a470 to merthyr
a465 westweards to a4059
Down the a4059 and back to cardiff on a470.

Just a few beauties
