MY 92 4.0 GRIFF SPEEDO (mileometer) HAS STOPPED WORKING,????

18 miles after leaving the MOT station where it screamed through with not even a hint of and advisory, my speedo mileometer has stopped, the speedo mph speedo gauge still works but its not clocking up any miles??

I thought they came hand in hand, anyone got a suggestion before i pull the dash out and find what could be a simple job.

Thanks in advance

Andy

Hs it stopped on the turn over from *9999 to *0000..If so sometimes agently ta on the screen while driving sorts it out...Mine done it on one occasion and a small number of miles down the road started again..hasnt done it since.

Try pressing the trip reset several times while driving. That's worked for me in the past but someone did mention reversing for a couple of hundred yards worked.

Will struggle with our ancient SW gauges on the precats. they dont have them.

I believe so, it wasn't a joke post. I guess it takes the pressure off the wheels inside the speedo and loosens them so they can click over. I've not tried it, the reset thing has worked the two times it happened to my car but as you don't have that option....

Until the internal battery that keeps the odometer memory alive fails. Then it goes back to zero every time you turn the ignition off.

So you end up having to have the battery replaced and the mileage reinstated to prevent a mileage discrepancy appearing on the HPI check.

... or you could just wait. It'll probably decide to start working one day, when it feels like it. It's a precat. My fuel gauge took a break last year, it was tired out. Never quite got round to 'fixing' it but one day it just started working again. Hasn't missed a beat since. It's character building. thumbup

I went out in the griff yesterday as it was so nice, found a quiet spot to reverse it about 80 feet then set off forward and blow me it started to work again.......

Thanks......

This method worked for me, plus a hefty bang on top of the dash.

Cool, glad its working , strange though isn't it? Seeing as there is no mechanical connection between the box and the speedo, you wouldnt expect this to do anything.
