I think this image should adequately describe the issue!

So the questions are:
- where is the best place for a replacement?
Fibreon made my replacement and sent it to Racing Green who did a good job paint matching (Crystal Topaz Pearl) and fitting.
So the questions are:
- where is the best place for a replacement?

- can I fit a Mk2 grille to a Mk1 car?
Yes, may need to move some pipework, can't remember what but it was a quick job.beano500 said:
- how much, roughly, is it going to cost me?
Grill is the same price for the T2 grill as for a replacement Pepperpot, from memory about £160 + spraying and fitting. So the questions are:
- where is the best place for a replacement?
- can I fit a Mk2 grille to a Mk1 car?
Mk 2 definately not suitable for a Mk 1, 2000, tried at my Tuscan
there is a pipe from Aircon which is only suitable with Mk1 grill.
Otherwise you have to modify the aircon pipe!
Try Bell Hill or other breaker, maybe you have a chance also
on ebay, it will be the cheapest way.

Aah aircon pipe that could be the one, will check invoice later but sure it was only an hours labour to rotate it 90 degress (don't remember it needing re-charging either), mine is a 2004 but can't imagine there would be that much difference, but that aside it IS possible. Forgotten how to post piccies but can e-mail if wanted.there is a pipe from Aircon which is only suitable with Mk1 grill.

I thought it was illegal to pick up your own road kill...

Muchly obliged by all your contributions, folks!

OK - don't get technical there - I believed so too, but in this instance I happened to drive round the block to pick up my number plate, which mysteriously fell off my vehicle as I was proceeding in a westerly direction, and I may or may not have picked up the said item, and it may or may not have been said item which struck any part of my vehicle while I may or may not have been stationary anyway, any evidence no longer being in existence due to the actions of a hungry family of four somewhere nearabouts the Welsh Borders. And, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, that's the full story....

At least it didnt make it as far as the engine...unlike this fox did.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jalopnik/2101202989/
