Can anyone confirm whether there is a difference between an accelerator cable for a V8S and the cable for an S3 (Part No F6720349). This is the second time its gone in six months and the last one from SFR cost me £65. I wonder if anyone has any ideas on how to avoid this problem - I know about the throttle stop theory - is there anything else - it really is a bitch !

I should think you wold be able to use the S2/3 cable on the V8S, totally different engines mean different cable length/end fittings.

£65 to me does sound overly excessive.

Roy.

Which end does it keep breaking? I've had them go at both ends. Rich...

I just got a 2.9 Granada Throttle cable and retaining clip. Cost me about £15 IIRC.

But Ren is asking if it is the same item on a V8, because there is no reason why it should be! Rich...

Mind you I agree a throttle cable should not be £65!

If its failing repeatedly, I suggest you have at least one of the following problems:

Misalignment of the cable where it passes through the bulkhead, so it doesn't line up with the pedal. Cured my repositioning the cable and securing it so it can't move back out of line.

Pedal adjusted too high so the cable is kinked at idle. Cured by adjusting the pedal down using the cable adjuster at the throttle housing.

Right foot too heavy, overstretching the cable at full throttle. Cured by a throttle stop (a simple DIY one can be made using £5 worth of parts and fitted in an hour or so).

Any of these problems will wipe out the cable within a few months. I would assume you have all of them until proven otherwise.

My V8S used to go through throttle cables like clockwork every six thousand miles until I sorted all these problems out.

I looked around for a bit and ended up ordering mine from David Batty for £65 inc VAT. I will put the various counter measures in place to stop it breaking again once I have fitted it.

That seems a rediculous price (when compared with the price of a V6 one). What does the cable arrangement consist of?? Obviously it cant be just a length of cable in a shroud with a moulded bit at each end a la V6 cable.

If you use a Granada throttle cable it needs to be modified to suit the TVR V6.

Whereas the throttle cable for V8S is as per Chim and Griff.

I'll go and sit down in a darkened room - I never knew you actually knew something about them!

I think that misallignment is a very common issue with cars right up to the Tuscan. Either "Barry the Bodger" got the hole right in the factory...

...or he didn't, in which case you need to sort out the cause or you'll be replacing the effect all the time!

No it doesn't.. I collected mine from the Ford mainstealers and had it on the car in under 5 minutes, no mods needed.

Cheers

Haven't fitted mine yet, but it's in the boot as a spare, looks like it will fit though.

...I'm grateful to my learned friend ..problem is we've never had to change a V6 throttle cable... ever!

Blthy and I always agreed we'd leave the science and alchemy to superior beings and just concentrate on the straightforward stuff.....namely selling?!

Does anyone else have an image of Blackadder where Percy is busy trying to make pure "Green"?
