Is it a good time to re-train?
Discussion
Im wondering whether its worth trying to go back to uni and retraining in another field, not entirely sure what though. I studied engineering straight from school, graduated in 2003, TBH I always prefered the practical side of things over the theory, 6years later I find myself out of contract with a market that is as flat as a very flat thing thats been run over by a steamroller.
Given the curent financial climate, is it a good idea to spend a few years back at uni retraining in another profession; afterall as a kid when I chose to do engineering I looked at the world through totally different eyes; maybe the voice of maturity would send me down a different path.
Any thoughts?
Regards
Iain

Ever considered the rail industry Iain? With your engineering expertise I'm sure you could adapt, as long as you can put up with shift work and a zero tolerance drugs and alcohol policy. Benefits include job security, reasonable salary, being able to transfer anywhere in the Country, final salary pension scheme.

Cheers Richard I'll take a look, drugs aren't a problem, the drink policy may be though.
One possible route I'm looking at is "City and Regional Planning", I've been involved in construction from the architectural and project management side so again could transfer my skills into planning.
Who knows?
