Guard Sacked Over Facebook Friends
Discussion
Do you think there are any offenders on PH?
A prison officer has been sacked after an inquiry revealed his Facebook friends included 13 convicted criminals. Nathan Singh, 27, was fired for gross misconduct after a probe showed he was friends on the site with a drug dealer, a fraudster and a murderer. His friendships with the convicts were revealed after an investigation into claims he was supplying mobile phones and other banned items to inmates at Leicester jail where he worked.

From the sounds of it, it would make no difference whether he had dodgy facebook friends or not. Any screw supplying illegal goods to inmates is going to have a hard time of things. It's one of the few things they can't get away with. Although someone in that position should take a little more care than usual perhaps with his choice of friends, facebook or not.

I'd best have a first class ticket and a table booth please. I'd like a tea and a scone when the Buffet car opens as well, thanks.

Before anyone STARTS, my post is based on professional experience.
I prosecuted a number of drug gangs of asian origin, and they specifically targeted jobs within the prison service in order to get drugs, SIMS and weapons into prisons.
Anyway, my work here is done

So what can they get away with if there are only few things they cant?Snake the Sniper said:
Ignoring inmates asking for help/stuff all night
They do not get ignored but they do get warnings for unnecessary use of their cell bells.Prisoners on the whole are inadequates, they will normally have a couple of hours in the evening or day to sort out their affairs or toiletries for when they are locked up later. The problem is they don't think further than the next 30 seconds and suddenly remember that they have run out of toilet paper half way throught squeezing one out after bang up or have to make an urgent phone call that they could have made earlier. They will also press the bell just to wind the officers up and make them walk to the cell to see what the problem is only to say "sorry gov, I don't need you anymore."Snake the Sniper said:
giving them a quiet shoeing when no-ones looking
Would be nice if that could happen but there are independant monitors that visit the prison constantly who can contact the police on a prisoners behalf if the prisoner makes a complaint of assault. Don't forget we are dealing with people who are proven to be dishonest and go say far as to claim compensation if they are forced to go cold turkey whilst inside.Snake the Sniper said:
mixing up their orders for clothes/stuff
They cannot order clothes in prison only get them sent in by familiy/friends. As for mixing up their orders the prisoners do a great job of messing it up themselves. On the odd occasion the prison do get a prisoners order wrong it's hard to tell if the prisoner is being honest or not. As I said earlier they are dishonest and will always try and pull a fast one to gain something they are not entitled too.Snake the Sniper said:
A mate has been on at last one charge for excessive force.
That maybe, but having to try to deal with someone intent of causing you great harm or has just assulted a colleage is difficult. We are all human and it happens, but as you have said yourself your mate hasn't got away with anything.Flanders. said:

Jessus Soovy, you can't make a joke about someone with a surname like that, you'd be banged up for 50 years.
