Hi All,

I have a picture which is 3 meg in size - but I want to reduce it to under 1 meg.
I am running windows xp - with no other programmes.
Can anyone advise how can I do this?

Many thanks in advance

Might not help if the image is a jpeg already!

Ian you'll need some sort of photo software to do it without losing too much by way of detail. Most programs have a 'Save for web' option which allows you to play around until you get it the size you want.

Do you need to reduce the physical size of the image or just the amount of memory it takes up. The reason I ask is it might be difficult to meet the 1meg limit without some reduction in physical size.

If you are still struggling, e-mail the original to me and I'll see what I can do.

I use IrfanView

Very easy to use, and free.

Is this thread posted somewhere else as well...??
I posted a reply to that one! hehe

Anyhow, what I said-

Microsoft Picture Manager can resize images.
You can either resize proportionally by dimensions, by size in inchs or cms or resize according to your own dimensions.
It's native to XP and can be found in the accessories menu (I think!)...
Oh and when you resize the image(s) in it, it'll give you the approximate file size post-resize. thumbup

I also use Irfanview but only for it's resizing. It's quicker and easier than PS

Another one to look at is Jpeg4email - drag and drop, auto resizing without too much pixelation and it's free

Grab the Image Resizer and it will give you a resize image option when you right-click an image.

What he said. Unless you have very specific requirements it's very fast and easy to use.
