Sadly this type of crime is very fashionable with our scroaty fraternity.
. As tonyrec says, there seems to be a much increased trend of breaking into houses to steal car keys (or hooking through the letter nox if you are daft enough to leave your keys near it). Probably due to the increased levels of car security (better alarms/immobilisers etc). It also seems, from press reports, to be increasing the levels of car jacking as well.
I have nothing to do with this company and I am not necessarily recommending it, but I was speaking to a work colleague who's partner installs a vehicle security system that will allow you to disable the car via your mobile phone - perhaps after the cops have got close to it - also allows to you know exactly where it is, and what speed it is doing. You can even speak to the driver through a built in speaker!! There are also other "goodies" you can add like an SOS panic button, impact sensors etc.
Doesn't sound too expensive (I believe about £800) to stop these people. If you want to know more call a guy named Dave Malone 07876354436 and mention you got his name from Dave Morgan.
Like I say I've never met the guy personally, but his partner assures me he (and the system) is good (well she would - wouldn't she!)

the cop who attended after my M Coupe went the same way said that its mostly for "blockers" that are used to get in the way to ease escape of the rest of the gang on high value robberies - they hook/break in for the keys as there have been cases of the steering lock coming on which isn't funny when you are doing 90+ around B roads trying to outrun the polizei
either that or some joy riding - he felt only a very small % were for on-sale
now when you get to the big 4/4 or the £60k+ sportscar market that's a different story

The keys were stolen by putting a brick through my front door window and taking the keys from the hallway table (without entering the house).
Apparently this is becoming very common because locks are tied into the electronic system therefore it’s difficult to for thieves to replace a broken lock or coded keys through the main dealer network without proof of ownership.
I would therefore recommend to all Pistonheads to garage if possible and be careful where you leave your keys!!

(According to Bath & North East Somerset police this is 1 of 30 performance cars stolen recently in this area!!).
