Few pics taken last Thursday of the old girl. It's had a few coats of wax since purchase, I've fitted period ICE, a new elec ariel, it's had a full service, new wheel bearings, an auto box service, few new hoses and pipes and has just passed it's MOT

A good little city runner, the 2.0 auto doesn't set the world alight but i'm happy just pottering about.

I have a hankering for an old Merc or an E30 3 series.

If I wasn't company car'd up, I'd in one like a shot.

Do you have a lot of reliability niggles though? Whilst these old cars are built well I'd still have concerns about cold mornings and little things not working...

I had to put a few things right when I bought it (for £650) and spent about £350 doing the essentials, but being a fussy bugger I had it all done at once when not all of it was needed there and then.

Since then it's been fine, a few things noted at the MOT but nothing urgent/ major, and only £180 to insure too.

When we had the snow, I left it for two weeks and it started first time, as it does every time, I use it most days currently and it's completely reliable. It's very comforting to drive home and it's great to have a car you feel comfortable about leaving in ANY part of town. Oddly, despite it's lack of 'flash' you can still get away with parking it in very expensive parts of London as people seem to accept old Mercs as having some class still.

I forgot to mention that this car has the factory 'sportline chassis' option giving it lower and firmer suspension (but in no way uncomfortable) wider wheels and tyres, different seats and steering wheel. This has added quite a lot to the resale value apparently

That explains it then. Do you get threatened with being sent there if you are particularly bad?

I think I have one exactly the same sat on my shelf in the garage at home.

Of course I line up the vents and controls...i'm like James May, they are like that all the time.

The radio cassette is an e bay special Blaupunkt with 'credit card' security, I love it as it suits the car so much better than the Argos CD player it came with.
