I've been looking at these as a replacement for my company car. I decided the 7 series was slightly too big for what I need so I've come down a size.

Anyway, I still want to stay away from diesel even though I've heard the 270 CDI is a decent engine (and also the one I've test driven). I have been looking at the 320 petrol but would prefer a 500.

What should I be looking for? What should I steer clear of? What are the advantages or disadvantages of the 500 over the 320?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts on these because I really love the look and feel of them.

My wife has a W209 CLK500 Elegance Convertible (2003), we've had it since 9K miles.

Can't comment on how it compares to a 320, but it is lovely and smooth and effortless quick. It isn't sporty in any way, just smooth, quiet & comfortable. Backseat passengers have complained it's a bit exposed, while we're comfy in the front.

Since we've had it, we've had problems with electric seat motors (inc headrest ones), and the rear hi-level brake light has just fallen off (back into the bootlid) and this appears to have stopped the hood working - it goes into Mercedes tomorrow.

Also, the Mercedes dealer inspected it and said the catalytic converters are loose (although it passed MOT). I've asked them to go back to Mercedes and see if they will help with replacement seeing as the car had only done 18K miles over 5yrs. Waiting to hear on this one.

She gets about 20-22MPG commuting 10miles a day. At weekends when I've driven it, the computer usually says 19-22mpg so it doesn't seem to vary much. Not sure how much the 320 would improve on that?

If you have any more specific questions, I may be able to help.
