“Can I put something in your mind,” Ecclestone starts innocently. “Ross Brawn is the guy that runs the teams’ technical committee and probably knows what’s going to happen before other people, or is in a position to guide things. There’s a massive conflict of interest.”

A tad obvious perhaps Bernie, well, to those with eyes anayway.

The next bit really says way more than perhaps Bernie really wanted to let out of the bag:-

"But surely Brawn is a man of total integrity who would never take advantage? “What, working for Ferrari?” replies Ecclestone"

Let's just read that last bit again shall we? - “What, working for Ferrari?”

So, Bernie has just admitted what many of us have been thinking for years, not only is Ross Brawn untrustworthy but so are Ferrari.

& yes I am aware that not only have Ferrari incurred Berine's ire recently by being ungrateful about the extra money he slipped them & that Ross Brawn may have stopped Bernie buying into Honda but all the same, it's pretty strong stuff.

Looks like Bernie is trying to upset the teams at opposite ends of the F1 budget spectrum. Another depth charge from which he hopes to pick up the treasure it unearths.

Bernie is starting to get boring now. What happened to the days of teams/drivers wanting to race at some of the most exciting tracks in the world, pushing human/technical limits and providing an exciting time for the fans.

In the current climate you would think they would want to make fans/sponsors feel confidence in the sport, regulations and its infrastructure....think someone should tell Bernie F1 isnt untouchable.

To my mind, all these last minute shenanigans the week before the first race smack of drumming up attention more than anything else.

As noted above though, what a shame we're not talking about exciting cars, drivers and tracks rather than politics and bh fighting over money.

You've hit the nail on the head. The number of statements of this ilk emanating from Max and Bernie this week has shown the depth of their concern, IMO.

It's a wonder that they manage to get any actual work done, what with all the interviews they give

Quite. If they were to introduce sensible, well written, unambiguous regulations. Be unbiased towards any team, regardless of colour of car or country of origin. Be unbiased towards any driver, regardless of colour of skin or country of origin. wink Pay out money that they owe to creditors that will rely on that money. Basically, if they did their fecking jobs properly, they wouldn't need to scaremonger teams or put out thinly veiled threats in interviews. The teams would go along with things because it would be well run and there would be nothing to complain about. It's not difficult, they're just incompetent.

I don't think that they are in the least incompetent.
Rather, I think that they are highly competent at doing inexcusable things.

It did occur to me that as the commercial rights holder, the small man was alleged to have been prepared to 'donate' £100m towards funding the team now called Brawn GP. Of course, there would be no conflict of interest in the commercial rights holder being a major shareholder in one of the teams, and nor is there a conflict of interest in him then criticising the person who refused his 'assistance'.

“What, working for Ferrari?”

That's not the 1st time recently that he's let the cat out of the bag. Of course it's timed to provide the maximimum inconvience to all & sundry - doesn't stop it being true though.

Depends on how you define racing - I've seen a bloke win a race fair & square but then get bumped back to 3rd & some fella in the red car that hadn't even been close to leading the race get given the win.

Admitedly under normal circuumstances the race would have finished & I would have gone & done something useful safe in the knowledge that I'd seen the right man win but as it was then & is now I've no idea who has really won the race at all. Keeps me interested longer, see?

Going back to Bernie's comments on Brawn, it's not just Brawn that gets abused but also Ferrari. Be interesting to see if either party is prepared to take him to court for his opinion on their trustworthyness.
