Whats the P/W ratio between these though?

ETA : Tuscan about 369bhp p/t

M5 about 278bhp p/t

So yes , really the tuscan should have walked it!

M5 will be much easier to launch off the line, has faster gear changes and i assume closer ratios (owing to having 2 more gears)

We are also talking German bhp/ton VS TVR bhp/ton

Well the M5 , is like a brick
The Tuscan is more like a bullet

Then again gearing, the smg in the m5 i think would have changed everything!

The M5 will have better aero but that will only start to matter towards the end of the run.

I doubt the Tuscan has ever seen a wind tunnel, the M5 is actually quite a slippery sucker.

This is a good point Gaz, plus the front end of the tuscan gets very light at speed due to the rad sitting at a / angle and causing a bit of lift.

Even if the TVR had got a better start, it was clear that the M5 was pulling away the entire length of the race. So the TVR would have at best kept level for the gear change, thats it.

Its true.

The bmw was even pulling away at the higher speeds. Bmw have got it so right with the m5, the engine matches the gearbox perfectly. The thing weighs nearly 2 tonnes but goes like a rocket.

Ive seen videos of the m5 racing other stuff with comparable power to weight, but it just kills them.

Drag racing is a lot harder than most (Brits anyhow) give it credit for.

A bodged start can easily loose you a race, even against a much slower car.

Also, was that a stock M5 and was it a healthy Tuscan?

I would doubt that tuscan is making healthy power but still that shouldn't be a surprise.

Even if it was making say 360bhp for a healthy 4L tuscan the M5 had 150bhp more and much better aero, easier gearbox and launch control. Aero makes a huge difference over 100mph and both of those will be getting to 100 very quickly.

I got no sound here so not sure, but looked to me that the tuscan's reaction to green light wasn't fast at all

Terrible TVR launch. At higher speeds BHP more important than power to wieght but TVR should have been a lot quicker.

So true. There is a fair bit of skill in getting off the line at green without lighting up the back wheels or killing the launch with tc.

Used to love racing off the lights when i was younger and was only ever beaten once (ok twice but the second time i was in my moms 1.3 opel kadett and i was up against a porsche 911)
