For me it is the stealth factor of the car, well at least until the loud pedal is pressed and seeing 'fast' cars disappear in the rear view mirror

getting the nod from appreciatative porker/merc/audi drivers who have paid 5 times as much for the same, if not less horse power!

You'd get less looks if you drove around in a bright yellow convertible Zonda, buck naked with a telly on your head, than driving the Monaro! laugh

As a huge fan of Monaros and only seeing a couple, it's the road presence of them. I saw Rocket-man's black VXR (a colour which doesn't stand out like yellow or something) but I noticed it straight away. They look awesome and the cars next to it looked tiny. Then the sound of it purr'ing past to finish it off. cloud9 Brilliant cars. Then there's the community. Hardly any of my mates know what a Monaro is, but if you do know then it's a pleasure to see one.

What? The car is ultimate Q car as it gets no attention other from the very very few that might actually know what it is. For me the best thing about owning one was summed up in the first post.

actually its an even tie between pissing off Porkers/beemers/etc on the 50 to nsl grand prix on the motorway and the community. We are very fortunate to have an unpretentious friendly group. This forum community really adds to the ownership experience.

Look in every other sub forum on here to see just how good we all have it. Regular friendly/competitive meet ups, dyno days, vmax, Jez the trolly dolly. No other sub forum has the same community spirit. Its enough to make me get all mushy like that time all the S/C boys started to quiver at the sound of belt slip at the last dyno day hehe

Not a monaro per say (GTS) but my worst thing is owning the car for 10 months and only actually driven it for 4 of them, but all about to change smile

Dear All,

noise the best for me. When I saw/heard the 5th gear review of the VXR500 I got the "want one" need.
I know mine is only a Monkfish'd CV8 but the LS1 slightly uneven throb at idle, the burble when cruising, the pop pop when the fuelling returns after cutoff...
...and lastly but foremostly the four horseman of the apocalypse/hounds of hell rooooaaar when you boot it. You don't even need a tunnel biglaugh

regards,
Jet

thumbup I totally agree. This place definitely adds to the good feeling of owning and driving the car. Great people, who would go out of their way to help others out. No evidence of 'if you don't know the basics, then I'm not going to spell it out to you'. A bit of light pi55 taking always brings some good laughs, but we have no vehicle model/ location splits or infighting that you get elsewhere (PH EA for those who are pistonheads regulars hehe ).

The Monaro itself always makes me grin like a cheshire cat. 400HP and a great noise for not a huge amount of outlay. Low servicing costs are also a big bonus compared to the european performance marques. I choose to use mine as a daily driver over the other 2 cars we have, just because it makes driving so much more enjoyable biggrin

Bring on the Dyno Day, Vmax, and Avon Park - all in the next 6 weeks!
