Have you checked the condition of your cones? If they are past their best and the car is riding on the bump stops you're not going to see much benefit in buying decent shocks.

I've got Avo adjustables on my car (for 7 years/20k miles!). Still work as well as the day I put them on and the adjusting knob actually makes quite a difference to the stiffness. Full soft is a bit firmer than a decent standard pair of shocks.

yer the car was full restored last year and all the rubber cones and knuckle joints are brand new and the ride height is good it just feels a bit sloppy and roles a bit more than it bid so i just think it wants sumot a bit stiffer

Avo's recommended here. If you don't mind taking them on and off to get a set-up, the Koni's are fantastic, and have decent life. Some of the aftermarket stuff is utter garbage - Spax, after experience, I wouldn't touch with a bargepole.

I used to like SPAX, but of late they really don't seem so good. I like the GAZ adjustables - the price is about right and the quality is excellent. I also use GAZ on my Rover rally car and it has taken the most amazing abuse without ever a damper failing. Highly recommended.

+1 for AVO
+1 for KONI

I've had 3 GAZ shocks go pop on me before switching to AVO and i've not had any problems since switching to them.

The GAZ ones corrode terribly as well, cheap anodizing?...
