Q plate for Motorbike
Discussion
Hi Folks Newbie here,
In need of hopefully some expert help !
Just recently I have purchased an BMW motorbike which
was salvaged from the Napoli which sank in Devon waters two years ago.
The bike has been granted total ownership to the finder and I have purchased the bike, problem is BMW
have been paid out for the loss and washed their hands of the consignment.
I took the bike for MSVA test which only failed on KPH speeedometer and rear indicators ( too close ) then two days later email from test engineer at VOSA they will not allow retest untill we have conformation from BMW to state year of manufacture, which at the moment they are refusing to supply !!
My question is how can I change any part of the bike
to go down the Q plate route as this bike is brand
new but two years old.
Year related plate does not bother me as all I wish to do is get the bike on the road, I wish to apply
to DVLA on a Q plate basis for a new chassis no,any one done this before ?
Many thanks Mack....

Hmmmm if ever there was a case for the Q Plate this seems to be a fine example of what it is for really . Just goes to show what a55h0135 the DVLA and BMW can be.
Well presumably from what you say there's some written documentation relating to the granting of the ownership which is where I'd start on this. It's well known enough it was plastered all over the media for months and is most definitely in the history books so they can not deny it. There's a chassis number which there will be records of and BMW will have to have to confirmed the existence of that! If nothing else it will be in their Quality Control records as they have ISO 9000
BMW can be jerks I can tell you of first hand experience my brother had with them when his brand new BMW developed a SERIOUS engine fault on a motorway resulting in total engine failure. Sometimes you have to just keep banging the door with them. They have a habit of denial fortunately press publicity can help Joe Public now and then and they have to concede.
Keep at it you'll get there

Hi Qdos,
Thanks for the reply, we certainly will keep
banging on at them because its not only me in this situation, there are 127 bikes all told I know some
will be broken and sold on but, including my self I think there are a dozen people all trying to get this
information from BMW, but if its not forth coming then
the Q plate is my only option.
Best regards Mack....
