Check out the clearance section ( they will have prices ending in a 7 ie. £4.97, that's where the bargains are to be had....although anything decent would have been snapped up by the staff biggrin )

Yes, but:-
- Supermarket wines aren't typically as good as wines from e.g. Threshers and Oddbins. I speak from experience
- Supermarkets sometimes aren't too fussy about where they store their wines. In 2007 we had to return 5 out of ~9 or 10 bottles of wine bought from Sainsburys as they'd gone off within 6 months (i.e. they were probably already off when bought)
- Supermarkets don't have an experienced person behind the till who knows what they're talking about.

Ergo I've not bought any wines from a supermarket for over a year, and don't intend to start again anytime soon.

Oh...and Threshers prices (like-for-like, where that exists) tend to be ~10-15% over s'market prices at most.

Recommendations (threshers):
Anything by Stoneleigh vineyards in NZ (typically £10-13 sticker price) - excellent wines, esp. the Pinot Noir and the Sauv Blanc.
Campo Viejo Rioja for an everyday wine.
McGuigans isn't a bad vineyard either - think they do a Shiraz-Viognier, which is actually a very good combination.
...and there's a beaujolais with a cream/tan label, forget the appellation.

The Beaujolais with the cream label...probably the Jadot smile

I'm ex Unwins...and currently a Threshers manager, certainly have been very honest about it here over the last year and a bit...

As the OP has deleted his post, there seems no reason to keep the thread open.
