Recommend me a hotel in Birmingham?

Looking for a nice hotel in Birmingham for a weekend away with the other half. Any recommendations?

In particular, is the City Inn as good as it looks?

As always you get what you pay for. The best hotel IHMO are:

Malmaison
Hotel du vin - My choice but I'd expect it to be the most expensive.
Other possibilities are the Hyatt or SAS Radisson which is fairly new.

Just consider that central hotels have v.limited parking/none at all meaning leaving your car in a NCP overnight (not recommended)

Stayed at City Inn in January. Absolutely fine place to stay. Bright, modern, clean and centrally located. Not a great deal of character of course, but not sure you're going to get that in Birmingham. I'd go there again anyway, and I'm pretty fussy.

Stayed in the Radisson, only for one night when I went to see a show. The glass front to the room was nice.

Stay well away from the Brittania in New Street, I usually stop there for the night when I go to the Christmas Market, and the quality of the place has plummetted, 3hr wait to check in, the room stank of smoke, the radiator thermostat was broken so the heating was on full all night etc. Terrible place.

I'll be staying in the Burlington this year.

My partner stayed at the Marriot off the Hagley Road when it was my sisters hen night and they all said it was a decent hotel.
