I remember watching that from pitside. The tyre carcass went really high in the air and for a moment looked like it was on course to land on us. Quite a moment.

We cant of been stood further down the track than you VOF. We were stood on the tail-bed of Knuts trailer as it spun past us with bits of the car following it down the track.

I remember the heat blast was pretty intense soon.

Is this the car that Smax took to the title 2 years later?

How were they allowed to have that scaffolding up on the banking. I thought that sort of thing was banned years ago.judge

this was years ago tongue out

Mickey had two bad euro finals in a row, can't remember if this was the year before or after the really bad one, where he lost a tyre which took out the wing and he went into the field

off topic :
regarding flying carcass, I remember a TF from last FIA finals,
I was in the grandstand, TF shook very badly right off the line,
driver aborted run at 60ft, car idled down track,
and ca. 5-6 seconds AFTER he passed me (seated at 60ft)
a clamp that holds the motor to the frame fell out of the sky
and hit a lady next to me on the shoulder, small bruise,
she didnt make a fuss, lucky it didn´t fall on her head,
clamp must have been xxx ft high.
Cheers,
Benni

These excellent pictures are from the 2001 Euro Finals with Micke against Pelle Linlow. What an amazing picture sequence.

The 'lost a tyre' incident was Micke's big accident in eliminations against Darryl Bradford at the Euro Finals meeting in 2002 - a bad weekend for accidents - Fast Freddy in the wall Friday night, Barry Sheavills' huge chassis-snapping accident Saturday qualifying and Micke's terrible 'basher' in Sunday elims.

Remember that one well too. Especially the ambulance returning up track with Smax' still smoldering arm hanging out of the window waving to the crowd. Madman!
